Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


LIVE-OUT NANNY and HOUSEKEEPER POSITIONS (full and part time)

Type of Position: Full Time, Live Out
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Eden Prairie
Children: 10 and 3 year old girls
Compensation: Up to $640 per week ($16) per hour depending on qualifications
Benefits:  Paid vacation, paid holidays, sick days
Hours/Days:  This job will be up to 40 hours per week. The schedule will vary throughout the year as the mother is a student. However, she will know her schedule in advance. The nanny will need to be somewhat flexible but in turn, the mother can offer flexibility for the nanny.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with preschool to school age children
Description:  Providing safe high quality care for the girls is the nanny's primary responsibility. The older girl is in school so most of the care is for the younger one. The older girl may need occasional transportation to extracurricular activities. The family enjoys outdoor activities, time with family and friends and the older girl is active in sports.

Type of Position: Full Time, Live Out
Start Date:  Ideally, the week of February 21 but could start on Tuesday February 28
Location: Edina, near 50th and France
Children: 8 and 6 1/2 year old girls, 3 1/2 year old boy
Compensation: Up to $675 per week depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, negotiable on paid sick days and medical insurance contribution
Hours/Days: 45 hour work week, typically start at 7:30 AM  and end at 6:00 PM. The exception to this is start at 7:00 AM every other Monday and end at 5:30 on Wednesday and Thursday. The nanny will have a midday break of between 3 and 5 hours on two to three days, depending on how she wants to structure this. In the summer, the hours will be 7:45 to 5:45 with salary increase for added hours.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with preschool and school age children, previous nanny experience is preferred but the family will consider candidates with other relevant employment experiences, some college, especially in child development or education is desirable
Description:  This fun active family is seeking a nanny who will engage the children in fun creative activities, outdoor play, support the older ones in their homework, and arrange playdates for all three. The two older girls are in school all day and the preschool boy attends preschool four days per week. The family would like the nanny to spend some of this non child care time doing laundry, grocery shopping, errands, tidying and simple meal prep. There is also the opportunity for the nanny to have some free time midday. The family enjoys time together; playing games, swimming, camping, reading, church attendance and relaxing. The parents desire a nanny who is a good communicator, who is highly organized and who would like to develop a long term relationship with their family.

Type of Position: Part Time, 25 to 30 hours in four days, Live Out
Start Date:  Mid to late February
Location: Edina, near 50th and France
Children: 3 month old boy
Compensation: Up to $18 per hour depending on qualifications
Benefits:  Paid vacation and holidays
Hours/Days: This family can be somewhat flexible on the schedule they set up with the nanny. Their preference is that the nanny work Monday through Thursday with Friday as the off day. However, they might consider other schedules depending on the nanny's qualification and her needs.
Additional Qualifiers: Extensive experience caring for infants, college educated with an understanding of child development, physically active lifestyle, Spanish speaker is highly preferred but not required. The parents are open to considering a very experienced nanny who would like to bring her own young child along to the job.
Description: The first and foremost responsibility of the nanny is to take great active care of the child. It's important that the nanny engage him in reading, motor skill development, age appropriate play and educational activities. Ideally, the nanny will speak Spanish and read to the child in Spanish. The parents are looking for someone who they will treat as family.

Type of Position: Part Time, night nanny and weekend help, eventually transition to day hours, 16-20 hours per week. This could also be a short term job starting in February and continuing through August. In that case, the hours would be only on weekends and the two overnights per week with no expectation that the nanny would transition to day time hours in September.

Location: Edina
Children: 15 month old boy and baby girl due in April 
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and paid holidays if on a scheduled work day  
Hours/Days:  Starting in February: 4 to 6 hours on Saturday. This is so the nanny and toddler boy can get to know each other before the baby arrives.
Starting in mid April for 3-6 months: 9:00 PM to 7:00 AM on Monday and Wednesday nights and  4-6 hours on a weekend day. The nanny will be responsible for the infant's feeding, diapering, holding etc on these overnight shifts. The duration of the overnights will depend on how well the baby is sleeping.
Starting 3-6 months after baby's birth, for sure by September: Six hours on two weekdays which are yet to be determined and 4 to 6 hours on 1 to 2 weekends per month. These hours could be increased if the nanny wants to work more, up to 16 hours per week. 
The family would ideally like the same nanny who can start overnights in April and transition to days once the baby is sleeping well. It is not a requirement that the nanny work every weekend and the family can be somewhat flexible on the schedule. 
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with infant and toddler age children, current CPR certification or willing to obtain and must like cats
Description: The parents are seeking a second nanny to supplement the part time hours that their current nanny works. Once the transition to day time hours occurs, the nanny will be responsible for both children. The parents would like the nanny to be actively engaged with the children and promoting their development while ensuring their safety.
Pets: Two cats


Type of Position: Part Time, nanny will work one full week, about 50 hours, every 4th week
Start Date:  March 26
Location: Falcon Heights, near Como Park
Children:  7 year old girl, 5 and 2 1/2 year old boys and 3 month old infant
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: NA 
Hours/Days:  One full time week; Monday through Friday 7:30-8:00 AM to 5:30-6:00 PM. The hours may vary a bit, will be about 50 hours per week. The rotation is typically every 4th week and the nanny will know her schedule 6 months in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with infant to school age children
Description: This job involves primarily caring for the toddler and infant in the home and care for the two older children when not in school. The 5 year old boy currently attends preschool part time and will be in full day kindergarten in the fall. The two older children will have some summer activities outside the home but the nanny will not be expected to transport them.
Pets: Two cats that stay in the basement


Type of Position: Part Time mornings, 20+ hours, Live Out
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Lake Elmo
Children: 3 1/2 month old boy/girl twins, 4 year old girl and 5 1/2 year old boy
Compensation: Up to $17 per hour depending on qualifications
Benefits:  Paid vacation, holidays, sick days
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 11:30-12:00, the parents can be a little flexible on the hours depending on the nanny and her needs
Additional Qualifiers: Strong experience caring for multiple children from infant to young school age, experience caring for multiples is a plus but not required
Description: The primary responsibility for the nanny is to love and care for the children. The nanny will drop the two older children at preschool about 11:30 and be done with her work day. It's important that the nanny is organized, responsible and patient but can also be silly and active with the children. The family home has great indoor play areas and is in a beautiful neighborhood with a walking path and other families with young children. Ideally, the parents would like to hire someone long term (1+ year) for this position but will consider candidates who could work for a minimum of 6 months.

Type of Position: Full Time, Live Out
Start Date: Early to mid March
Location: Minneapolis, near Minnehaha Parkway
Children: 7 1/2 and 5 year old boys
Compensation: Up to $760 per week depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and willing to consider a medical insurance contribution
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with preschool and school age children and previous nanny experience is required
Description:  These parents are looking for a loving and experienced nanny who has worked with preschool and school age children. The ideal is if she has worked in a household with boys of similar ages to their sons. The boys are active and need both their minds and bodies exercised. The older boy is currently in 1st grade and the younger one in preschool part time. Most important is that they find a nanny who will fit well within their family and provide a loving and nurturing environment for the boys. This family is affectionate, enjoys time together outdoors and they hope to find a nanny who will be come a part of their family. This family has successfully employed a nanny through our service.  
Pets: 9 year old Golden Retriever


Type of Position: Full Time, Live Out Household Manager/Nanny (potential for Live In in the future if desired)
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Minneapolis, the family currently lives near the river downtown and plans to move to the Lake of the Isles neighborhood early next year
Children: 12 year old boy 
Compensation: $20++ per hour depending on qualifications
Benefits:  Paid vacation, holidays, will consider a contribution to medical insurance, incentive bonus plan
Hours/Days: Full time hours to include some evening, overnight and weekend hours. It's important that the person doing this job can be flexible to meet the needs of the family and in turn the family can offer some flexibility. They are very organized and can typically provide a schedule a couple weeks in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with school age children, housekeeper and household management experience  
Description: This family is seeking a trustworthy experienced individual who can provide two types of services. She will provide supervision and support for the 12 year old boy some days before and after school, some evenings and some overnights if both parents are traveling. This will vary, depending on the mother's schedule. The family also needs an experienced person who will enjoy all traditional household duties; keeping the house clean and organized while their son is off at school, some meal preparation and household management.  The family will employ outside help for all deep cleaning of carpets, upholstery, windows and other "spring cleaning initiatives". This is a great job for an individual who is a self starter, enjoys a variety of duties and can work independently in a home environment. This family has successfully employed nannies and housekeepers for many years and values and rewards those who are trustworthy, possess a strong work ethic, take initiative and are committed to their family. They are hoping to find someone who will be with them for a long time.
Pets: None at this time, may consider a small non shedding dog in the future
 


Type of Position: Part Time, 20 hours, Live Out
Start Date:  End of February/early March
Location: Minnetonka
Children: newborn girl, 11 and 16 year old girls
Compensation: Up to $18 per hour depending on qualifications
Benefits:  Paid time off (PTO)
Hours/Days: Monday 3:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday 2:00 to 7:00 PM, Wednesday 3:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM is the schedule the parents prefer. However, they also could consider having the nanny start earlier on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and not work at all on Friday. They have some flexibility on the schedule but Monday and Tuesday are critical days. They would appreciate if the nanny would work an occasional Saturday evening for a date night but this is not required.
Additional Qualifiers: Strong experience caring for infants, current CPR and First Aid is required or the nanny must complete training as condition for employment, college degree is preferred but not required  
Description: The primary responsibility of the nanny and the priority for the parents is quality care for the baby; providing for her physical, emotional and developmental needs. However, the mother will be home part of the time, so the family would also like assistance with household duties such as laundry, errands, organizing, light housekeeping, grocery shopping and meal preparation. These duties to be performed as time allows and when baby is napping. There may be occasional times that one of the older girls needs transportation to an activity.
Pets: Two Siamese cats and one Doberman puppy who is currently in obedience training


Type of Position: Part Time, 20 hours per week, two days
Start Date: Mid to late February
Location: North Oaks
Children: 5 1/2 and 3 1/2 year old girls
Compensation: Up to $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, medical insurance contribution, car provided for transporting the girls
Hours/Days: Thursday and Friday 7:00 AM start to between 4:00 to 6:00 PM end time. The end time may vary weekly but the job will be 20 hours per week. It would be helpful if there was some availability for the nanny to occasionally work a weekend evening and/or some daytime hours Monday-Wednesday. However, this is not a requirement of the job.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool and school age children, college education related to working with children is preferred but not required
Description: The parents are seeking an energetic nanny who will enjoy their two busy and fun daughters. It's important to them that the nanny is engaged with the girls and provides planned and educational activities for them. The family enjoys outdoor activities and there is little television time in their home. The nanny is responsible primarily for care for the 3 1/2 year old during the school year as the 5 1/2 year old is in all day kindergarten. The 3 1/2 year old has preschool on Thursday morning. The nanny is required to transport the girls  for school and activities and the family provides the vehicle.

Type of Position: Part Time, 3 days per week for a minimum of 6 months, maximum 12 months, Live Out
Start Date:  March 1
Location: Plymouth
Children:  Three month old boy/girl twins
Compensation: Up to $17 per hour depending on qualifications
Benefits:  Paid holidays, paid vacation if nanny works more than 6 months
Hours/Days: Three days per week 8:00 AM to 5-5:30 PM. One of the days does need to be Monday and the other two days can be whatever works for the nanny. The family wants to employ a nanny for a minimum of 6 months and can employ someone for up to one year.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant twins as a nanny or multiple infants such as lead teacher in infant room in a daycare, current CPR is required or the nanny must complete training as condition for employment, college degree is preferred but not required  
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to provide a safe and loving environment for the children. It's important that the nanny can stimulate the children and engage them in age appropriate activities as they grow and develop. The family's general lifestyle  is fairly laid back and they enjoy time with family and friends.
Pets: 5 year old Beagle who loves to cuddle and is great with the babies


Type of Position: Part Time, two days
Start Date: Mid March (flexible)
Location: Woodbury
Children: 2 year old and 7 month old girls
Compensation: Up to $16 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays
Hours/Days: Thursday and Friday Specific hours will vary, availability needed Thursday 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Typically the nanny will work about 12 hours per week and the family is willing to pay for 16 hours in return for some schedule flexibility. The nanny will have advance notice about the exact schedule. On occasion, there may be an additional half day in the spring/summer and this could be planned around the nanny's availability.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants and multiple young children, ability to multi-task and prioritize needs of both children
Description: The primary responsibility of the nanny is to keep the children safe and provide for a fun learning environment. The ideal nanny will have lots of energy to care for two young girls who are close in age. This family lives in a great neighborhood with walking trails and near by parks. They would love to find a nanny who will grow with the girls and stay with them long term through their young years. The nanny must be comfortable with the mother working in a home office.
