Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Location: Chanhassen
Children:
4 1/2 year old and 6 month old girls 
Compensation: Up to $710 per week($16 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid time off (vacation, holidays, sick days) and health club membership
Hours/Days: Typically, the nanny will work 40-45 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, flexibility occasionally needed to accommodate work and social events
Additional Qualifiers: 3+ years experience working with young children, CPR certified or willing to obtain
Description: The parents desire consistency for their children so would like to hire a nanny seeking a long term position. She should be someone who is fun, loving, very responsible and safety conscious. It's important that the nanny plan fun educational and social activities for the girls and can drive them to activities and preschool. They would prefer Christian faith but are open on this.  They would also appreciate help with keeping the house picked up, children's laundry and room organization and light grocery shopping as needed.

Children:
12 year old girl 9 year old boy, 1 1/2 year old boy and baby girl due in August 
Compensation: Up to $720 per week($20 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days, health club membership and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: This job averages 36 hours per week, based on days, some evenings/rotating schedule. There are on average 1 1/2 busier weeks per month  when the schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM. The other weeks during the month are 20-30 hours per week and are flexible to accommodate children's activities and work related coverage. Usually this is an every four week schedule but there may be times that it varies. Both parents are doctors so the schedule is set fairly well in advance but may need occasional longer hours for sick patient care. The family will pay a guaranteed salary for an average of 36 hours per week. Additional hours are available if desired.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working young infants and toddlers and school age children, skills or experience with Attention Deficit Disorder and Autism Spectrum Disorder
Description: This is a funny, smart and active family looking for consistent nanny care for the toddler and eventually the infant when both parents are working (about 1-2 weeks per month). The older children will need before and after school care and homework supervision during the busy weeks. They enjoy outdoor play, music and art and do yoga, swimming, piano and cello. The family watches minimal television and limits screen time. The nanny should be comfortable with having a parent present some of the time when working form home or doing errands, appointments. They would also appreciate help with household organization, errands, kids laundry and room organization and light meal prep.

Location: Edina, Highlands neighborhood
Children:  4 year old boy, 3 year old girl and 6 month old boy
Compensation: To $765 per week ($17 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance,  the family provides a vehicle for transporting the children
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, typical hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, there may be days that the family would need the nanny to start earlier or stay later, with advance notice. This family is moving to Minnesota and the mother is starting a new job so they aren't 100% sure what the schedule will be.
Additional Qualifiers: Prior experience caring for multiple young children from infant to preschool age, related post secondary education is preferred but not a requirement, dependable and ability to be somewhat flexible is important
Description: The two older children will be in a Montessori program daily from 8:30 to 3:30 during the school year; so, the majority of the childcare is for the infant. The parents are seeking a nanny who will engage the children in age appropriate activities, reading and both indoor and outdoor play. Their new home has a spacious lower level play area with an indoor sport court.  While the baby is napping and older children are in school, the parents expect that the nanny will be planning activities for the children, doing the children's laundry, and keeping the house tidy. Helping with meal preparation for the children will also be expected. The father plans to work from a home office but is open to considering other office options if this proves difficult for the nanny and children. He sometimes will be available to drive the children to school but the nanny may need to help with transportation on a regular basis. The kids are active and extremely compassionate toward each other and others around them. The parents are easy going and are looking for someone who is dependable and trustworthy. They are looking for a true addition to their family. They view their current nanny as a member of the family but she is not able to make the move to Minnesota with them.

Location: Hopkins
Children: 5 month old girl
Compensation: To $800 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits:  Paid vacation, holidays and sick days, will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. This is a total of 50 hours. There are also few nights per month that the family will need the nanny to stay overnight when both parents are travelling, (private bedroom and bathroom provided). They can work with the nanny to plan the schedule, most nights will be planned well in advance and the nanny will be compensated for these additional hours.
Additional Qualifiers: Strong infant care experience, mature, interested in long term employment, post secondary education in a child care related field would be a plus but not a requirement
Description: The parents are looking for a nanny who is reliable and experienced and loves spending time with children. The would like the nanny to actively play with their daughter and take her out to play groups and classes as she gets older. The ideal is a nanny who could stay with their family for many years as they hope to have another child in a couple years. So, if you're seeking job stability with a great family, this is a wonderful opportunity for you.  They would also like support with light housework, some laundry and ability to cook on some nights would be a plus.

Location: Minneapolis, near Lake of the Isles
Children: Infant boy
Compensation: To $850 per week ($17 per hour) depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days:  Monday through Thursday 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM; these are the hours that the family will need the nanny to be available and the salary is guaranteed based on these hours. However, child care may not actually be needed during all of these hours each week. An occasional Saturday morning, 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM, is required with advance notice (a month or more in advance) and the family will pay time and half for this.
Additional Qualifiers: Newborn care experience, CPR certification or willing to obtain,
Description: The parents are eager to develop a long term relationship with a nanny for their son. It's important that the nanny engages with him, gets him outdoors, and is able to take him to appointments and out in the community. They consider their home as a loving, warm environment and have high expectations for a nanny.  Quality care for their son is the priority. Household child care related duties to include his laundry, occasional child care related errands and basic clean up at the end of the day. The parents value education, learning, an active lifestyle and require minimal TV use.

Hours/Days:  Monday through Friday daytime hours, can be flexible on determining the schedule. It would be ideal, not required, if the nanny would travel with them.
Additional Qualifiers: Several years of newborn care experience, experience with twins would be ideal but not required, mature, calm, well organized and able to swim
Description:
The family is seeking a full time nanny who can care for the babies and also provide support for the household. The priority is to keep the babies safe, fed, changed and napped on a schedule. The mother does not work outside the home and is a "hands on" mother but does need time off. When she is with the children, the nanny should be willing to run errands and help with light housework. Clean up and laundry related to the children is expected.

Children: Young infant boy
Compensation: $15-$20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Hours/Days: This family needs a nanny who is willing and able to work a flexible schedule with advance notice. The ideal is that the nanny can work a combination of day, night and weekend hours and travel with the family.
Additional Qualifiers: Strong newborn/infant care experience, educated, CPR is a plus, ability to work with (and potentially train) first time parents would be ideal
Description: Most important is that the nanny provides quality loving care for the child and is reliable. Cleanliness and concern for the baby's safety is very important to the parents. An educated, curious person who is open to travel would be a good fit for this family. Both parents office from home, the father part time and mother full time currently, may be part time in the future. So, the nanny must be comfortable with this. The family lives in a spacious lovely apartment with a beautiful view overlooking the river. They would also like support with light errands, some driving and some simple cooking.

Start Date: June 15 to July1
Location: Minneapolis, Seward neighborhood, near Highway 94 and Riverside Avenue
Children: 10 month old boy
Compensation: To $640 per week for full time ($16 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits:  Paid vacation, holidays and sick days, will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, could be flexible on start and end times and/or total number of hours per week
Additional Qualifiers:  Previous infant care experience, safety conscious, live fairly close to the family and be perfume free
Description: Childcare is the only duty expected. When the baby naps, that is the nanny's down time to refresh so he/she can be present when the baby is awake. What the parents want is a fun, warm, laid-back and loving companion for their sweet baby who smiles and laughs a lot. They would like to learn from the nanny about child development and age appropriate activities. It's important that the nanny is physically able to get out and walk to places; park, library and other fun activities. It is not necessary that the nanny own a car. The family lives on a pedestrian only street and there is a lot to do within walking distance of their home.

Type of Position: Full Time
Start Date: Early July
Location: Minnetonka, near highways 101 and 62
Children: 3 month old boy and  3 1/2 year old boy
Compensation: To $810 per week ($18 hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits:  Paid vacation and holidays, will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: The nanny will work four week days, one day off each week, and the day off rotates. This job averages 45 hours per week. Some days the nanny will need to start as early as 6:20 AM and other days not until 9:00 AM. The parents will be home between 6:00-6:30 PM. So, the nanny must be able to work a variable schedule but she will know the schedule three months in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants and preschool age children, mature, in good health, a college degree in a related field is  preferred but is not a requirement, current CPR and First Aid certification or willing to obtain 
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the infant. The older boy attends a full day preschool that is very close to the home and the nanny will need to drop off and pick up. She will also be responsible for his care on any non school days. They would also like support with clutter control, children's laundry and willingness to cook on some nights would be a real plus. It's very important that the nanny is reliable and on time as the parents cannot cancel their work schedules.

Type of Position: Part Time, average 25 hours per week, flexible schedule (see below)
Start Date: Late July
Location: Scandia
Children: 6 month old girl
Compensation: To $15 per hour, depending on qualifications, guaranteed pay for 25 hours per week
Benefits:  Guaranteed year around compensation
Hours/Days: This is a job that requires the nanny to be flexible with her schedule but she will know her schedule at a minimum 2 months in advance. There is one weekend per month, infrequently two, required and this includes Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Some weeks may require only one day wile other weeks may require up to three days. They need a nanny who, depending on the day, is available to start as early as 5:00 AM and on other days could stay as late as 3:00 AM as both parents work variable shifts in the ER.  A shift could be up to 10 hours. Additional Qualifiers:  Previous infant care experience, mature, live fairly close to the family and be completely comfortable with same-sex parents, Infant CPR certification required
Description: Childcare is the primary duty. As a part of this, the parents would want the nanny to be active with the baby, facilitating activities to increase her learning. They would like her exposed to new things such as outdoor activities, reading, crafts, music etc. The family lives in a beautiful home on a lake. They would really like to have a long term relationship with the nanny. Because of the dogs, they would like the nanny to vacuum the play area floor.

Type of Position: Full time, 42 hours
Start Date: August 11 is the ideal, but they can consider a start date as late as the end of August
Location: St. Louis Park, located 6 blocks from Lake Calhoun.
Children: 7 year old girl and 4 year old boy
Compensation: Up to $18 per hour, depending on prior experience and education.
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick/personal days and contribution to medical insurance.
Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM; one Friday or Saturday night per month for the parents to have a date night; and one week day night per month for the parents to have a mini-date.
Additional Qualifiers: Prior nanny/preschool/school employment experience, 4-year college degree preferred, but not required.  Knowledge of child development/ psychology to develop quarterly plans and activities to teach skills.  Certified in CPR/First Aid, or is willing to obtain such certifications.  It is very important that the nanny plan to stay with the family for several years.
Description: The nanny's primary focus is the care, safety and development of the children.  Take charge to plan and execute activities and play that promote the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of children.  As weather permits, walk or bike with children to local parks, local lakes, and local swimming pool, for picnics or outdoor adventures.  Drive the children to preschool/school, swim classes, and other activities.  Planning and taking children to various outings, such as the zoos, museums, and arranging play dates.  Develop and implement curriculum for preschooler to supplement three days of morning preschool classes per week.  While children are at school, asleep or otherwise engaged, doing the family laundry.  Running family errands, while both children are at school.  Preparing nutritious snacks and family meals.  Keep the children’s rooms and closets organized.  Keep the house in neat and orderly condition.  Keeping the parents abreast of children’s daily activities and well being.  Family has successfully employed nannies through Nannies of the Heartland for several years, has excellent track record as employer, and wonderful relationships with past nannies.

Start Date: July 8
Location: St Paul, Highland Park neighborhood
Children: 2 and 5 year old girls  
Compensation: $270 per week ($15 hour), depending on qualifications

Hours/Days: Monday and Wednesday 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM during the summer and change to 8:00 AM to 5-6:00 PM when school starts in September.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with toddler and preschool age children, Early Childhood Education preferred but not required, CPR certification or willing to obtain
Description: Quality loving childcare is the priority. In addition, the parents are seeking a nanny who can provide age appropriate educational activities and projects for the girls. They are generally a laid back family, but quite busy and active, and require structure for the children in daily activities. They would like the nanny to do the children's laundry and pick up at the end of the day. As a family they enjoy spending time together, going to parks and museums. Starting in September, the parents may have the nanny pick up the older girl at school in the afternoon and then she will be caring for both girls until the end of the day. This family's current nanny was placed through our service and loves working with them. Due to change in schedule and moving, she can no longer continue with them.

Description: The priority is to provide loving quality care for the babies. The parents would like someone who will hold, read and play with them as infants. They are seeking a nanny who will grow with them as a family. Ideally they would like the nanny to be with them for several years as the children grow and develop and their needs change.

Description:  The nanny's primary responsibility is to provide child care on Saturday evenings and travel with the family. The family enjoys boating and swimming and has a pool so the nanny must be a good swimmer and very safety conscious. A nanny who is fun, loving, kind, affectionate and has a sense of humor is a good fit for this active busy family. It's important that the nanny can work as a team with the mother and be flexible with her schedule. The family has maintained long term relationships with previous nannies and babysitters.

Description:  This family is seeking a nanny who can work with the children on school work and help keep them engaged in activities and supervise playtime with children’s friends during non school time. They are enrolled in classes and the nanny will need to provide transportation from school and to extra curricular activities.  The nanny will also assist with dinner and preparing for school the next day, packing and organizing for activities and trips etc. She will assist in shopping for the children, do the children’s laundry and perform other household duties related to the children and in general help maintain the household. This family has successfully employed nannies through our service for many years. They are a fun easy going family that likes to spend time together and they enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. The nanny must be comfortable with the parents in and out of the home and working in tandem with the mother at times.
