Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position:  Full time, 4.5 days
Start Date: February/March
Location: Edina
Children:  2, 3 and 7 years old
Compensation:  Up to $20  per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Monday through Thursday 7:15 AM to 3:30 or 4:00 PM and 7:15 AM to Noon on Fridays. There may be rare occasions that the nanny would need to work on a Friday afternoon. 
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with toddler to school age children, previous nanny experience, and some education in child development, current CPR or willing to obtain
Description:  This is an active family with three energetic boys. They are seeking an energetic, fun and loving nanny who is a self-starter, takes initiative and is a strong communicator. The boys are in school, preschool and some youth classes so the nanny must enjoy doing outings and various activities with the boys. During non-school days, the family looks to the nanny to plan outings and arrange fun-filled days for the boys. This family has previously employed a nanny through our service. They are looking for a long-term relationship with a nanny who wants to do this as a career and is looking for a family to grow with.
Pets: None currently but they do plan to get a dog
 
Type of Position:  Full time, 5 days (40+ hours January-May; summer/fall flexible schedule 30-40 hours)

Schedule:  Tuesday through Thursday 7:30 AM (or later) to 6:00 PM (or earlier), and 9:00 AM (or later) to 5:00 PM (or earlier) on Mondays and Fridays. Some evening hours would be available.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous childcare experience with infant and toddler, previous nanny experience and some education in child development, current CPR or willing to obtain. Driver's license and vehicle to drive children is required (a car can be made available).
Description:  This is an active social/professional family with highest needs January-May and more flexible schedule the rest of the year. They are seeking an energetic, fun and loving nanny who is a self-starter, takes initiative and is a strong communicator. Some child related housework like laundry and meal preparation is expected. Nanny must enjoy doing outings and various activities with the toddler and simultaneously take care of the infant. They are looking for a long-term relationship with a nanny who wants to do this as a career and is looking for a family to grow with.

Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who can support the family not only in the daily care of the children but also their emotional and physical growth. A nanny should provide loving care in the home and help the children get out and explore the world and develop as people. The older girls attends preschool Monday and Wednesday mornings and the young boy will start Monday mornings in the summer. The parents value experience and are looking for support in raising their children. They are a health conscious family and would like the nanny to prepare a simple healthy dinner for the family and the children before the parents arrive home from work. The family is open to hiring a live in nanny who would like to sty in their home Monday during the four work days. They have a large bedroom on the lower level with en suite bathroom.

Children:  4 and 6 year old boys
Compensation:  Up to $900 per week, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  Three days per week, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and two days per week 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The family can be flexible on which days are longer and which are shorter to accommodate the nanny's preference.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous full time child care experience with  preschool and young school ages
Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who  is responsible, mature, a good role model and passionate about making kids their best. It's important to them that she hold the children accountable to rules and practicing safe behavior. The older boy is in kindergarten and the younger boy attends part time morning preschool. The nanny will need to provide transportation for them but both schools are within a few miles of the home. While the boys are in school, the family would appreciate help with basic household chores, grocery shopping, errands, children's laundry and simple dinner prep. This family lives in a great neighborhood with a large yard and the boys are active and enjoy outdoor play.
Pets: One small dog, hypoallergenic, non shedding
Type of Position:  Part Time, 33 hours per week in 3 days
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Maple Grove
Children:  5 month old boy and 19 month old girl
Compensation: $18-$20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM and Wednesday 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, total 33 hours

Description:  To provide safety, love and compassion, education, nutrition and of course fun is the nanny's job description for this family. Both children are currently in a center and receiving an amazing educational experience that the parents would like to continue with the nanny. Assistance with light housekeeping and errands appreciated. The parents describe themselves as easy going and encourage and expect open communication. As a family, they love to play at home, singing, dancing and doing crafts. They also like to hang out with friends and go on short adventures as nap schedules allow.

Description:  The parents are looking for a warm, loving and care person to take care of their son. It's important that she engage with him-play with him, take him to the park, classes and allow him to explore. It's also important that the nanny is observant and can provide feedback and information for the parents about the day's events. They are pretty laid back and quality family time is important to them. This family is moving to Minneapolis and they look forward to exploring a new city. This job location has great public transportation possibilities so you wouldn't need to drive downtown.

Type of Position:  Full time, average 45 hours per week, see schedule below

Location: Minneapolis, Lake Calhoun
Children:   20 month and almost 3 years old girls
Compensation:  To $960 per week, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  The job is Monday through Friday and at least 2-3 days per week, the start time is 6:30 AM with other days start between 7:30-8:30. End time is 6:30 PM on Monday and usually between 4:30-5:30 on other days. Most weeks will average between 40-50 hours a week with some weeks less and very rarely, more.
Additional Qualifiers: Minimum of 5 years of prior nanny experience, basic first aid skills, it is preferred but not required that nanny have college degree in early childhood education/development,
Description:  The nanny's primary responsibility is to the children. The parents are seeking a nanny who will create a stimulating, nurturing and safe environment for their daughters. It's important that they spend time reading, engage them in age appropriate play and get outdoors daily.  This family lives in a great neighborhood near the lake and several parks. They are looking for a nanny who loves children, is outgoing, confident, independent, reliable, punctual and patient.
Pets: None currently but they may get a cat in the near future
 

Type of Position:  Full Time, Nanny/Household Manager, 40 hours per week, (possibly more in summer, if interested)
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Minneapolis, East Lake of the Isles neighborhood
Children:  9 and 11 year old boys
Compensation:  $18-$20 per hour, any hours worked over 40 per week will be paid time-and-a-half for over time
Benefits: Paid time off, holidays, consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Early childhood development/education skills (which can come from experience and/or education), childcare experience with school age children, previous nanny and household management experience is preferred.  Since the family has a severe cat allergy, it is strongly preferred that the nanny lives in a home without cats.
Description:  The parents believe that the right nanny for their family could come from a number of different backgrounds and skill sets. However, it is very important that the nanny has the ability and enthusiasm to engage, play with, guide and teach values to two energetic active fun-loving boys. It's also important that the nanny has household management skills and is able to do laundry, cook, run errands and organize. This family has successfully employed several nannies through our service, and is seeking a partner in parenting.
Pets: None, though occasionally a relative's dog visits the home (4-6 times per year).

Start Date:  Ideally in February
Location: Minneapolis, East Lake Harriet Parkway
Children:  3.5 year old girl and 17 month old triplets, two girls and one boy; it is very rare that one nanny would be caring for all four children.
Compensation:  To $19 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  holidays, year end bonus
Schedule:  35 to 45 hours per week, primarily weekdays but some possible weekend help may be needed. The typical schedule would be Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but this is a bit up in the air as they transition from their current childcare situation.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with toddlers as well as experience caring for multiple young children of various ages at one time. An early childhood education would be nice. Also desired is an appreciation for and willingness to be outdoors.
Description:  This is a large family with one full time nanny and currently looking to hire a second. This person would be primarily responsible for the 3.5 year old-activities, school pick up, trips to the library, park etc. She is a loving little girl who enjoys engaging with others, reading, singing, being outside and going on adventures.  Assistance with children's laundry, keeping the house in order and organized, meal prep as needed, and occasional small errands, time permitting, is also expected. If you love activity and young children, this is the job for you!

Start Date:  Late Spring, early Summer at the latest
Location: Minneapolis, South
Children:  3.5 year old girl and 6.5 year old boy
Compensation:  To $850  per week, depending on qualifications and number of hours per week
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days
Schedule:  Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. If a nanny would like to work 35-40 hours, they could consider this through the summer of 2018 but then hours would increase to 45 per week in the fall of 2018.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool and school age children, college level classes in education or related field is preferred and they would love to find a nanny with experience or interest in caring for a highly functioning child with Autism.
Description:  Nanny's primary responsibility is care for the preschool girl before and after preschool and the older boy before and after school and both children full days in the summer.  While both children are in school (about 2 hours per day) the family would like help with laundry, dinner prep or an errand. Both children attend school very close to the home and are involved in classes and activities. The older boy has mild Autism spectrum disorder and the parents value finding someone who can address both his academic and social/emotional needs. It's important that the nanny has a safe and reliable car. In good weather, she can walk the children to school. They enjoy outings to parks, libraries, museums etc. As a family, they enjoy reading, outdoor exercise, visiting with neighbors and attending classes. The father will be on a sabbatical next school year and will spend some time working from home so the nanny needs to be comfortable with this. This family has successfully employed a nanny through our service.

Type of Position:  Full Time, 40 to 50 hours per week in 4 or 5 days

Start Date:  April 1
Location: Minnetonka
Children:  3 month old boy and 2 1/2 year old girl
Compensation:  To $20  per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to nanny's medical insurance
Schedule:  This job is 40 to 50 hours per week, depending on the nanny's preference.  The family currently has a nanny who works one day per week so they can be flexible on this.  The start time is 7:30 AM and end time 5:30 pm, Monday through Friday or four days per week.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience, experience caring for infant and  toddler age children, some education in child development
Description:  The nanny's primary responsibility is to provide full care of the two children. This includes driving to activities outside the home. The older girl will attend preschool in the fall. This is an active health conscious family that enjoys getting out for walks and bike rides on the trail right behind their house and going to playgrounds. They would love to have a nanny who wants to be a part of their family and they consider the nanny to be a critical partner in helping them raise healthy and happy children. They encourage the caregiver to be proactive and appreciate someone who is a self starter.

Type of Position:  Full Time, 40 hours in four days
Start Date:   May 1
Location: Wayzata
Children:  3 1/2 month old boy
Compensation:  $800+ per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and willing to consider a contribution to medical
Schedule:  The schedule is four week days 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM for a total of 40 hours. The day off will vary each week but the nanny will know her schedule several weeks in advance. 
Additional Qualifiers: Minimum five years nanny experience, infant care experience, infant CPR
Description:  The nanny's primary responsibility is to provide excellent care for the infant. It's important that she engages him in fun time activities such as reading, tummy time and floor play and age appropriate educational activities.

Type of Position:  Full Time, Household Manager/Nanny
Start Date:  Late May/early June 2017
Location: Wayzata
Children:  10 year old girl and  17  year old twin boys
Compensation:  $800+ per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, willing to consider a contribution to medical, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the younger child and running errands etc
Schedule:  The schedule is typically as follows: Monday and Wednesday 12:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday and Friday 7:00 AM to 5-6:30 PM and Thursday 12:00 to 9:30 PM. They can be somewhat flexible on this. The parents do some travelling and then the nanny would need to stay overnight.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with school age children, experience with household management, mature with good time management skills
Description:  The two older boys are independent and basically just need meals and supervision overnight if both parents are gone. The 4th grade girl needs to be picked up from school, escorted to activities and help with homework. She is a Type 1 diabetic so nanny will need to learn how to help manage this. Household management duties to be performed while she is in school include cooking, shopping, errands, light housekeeping and laundry/ironing. The parents do have busy schedules and occasional week night events. The father has a flexible schedule and is around so he and the nanny work together daily. This family has had the same nanny for 17 years. Her job has evolved from nanny to a home manger and caregiver. She moved to Minnesota recently with the family. However, she wants to be closer to home and her family.
Pets: Two small dogs and they plan to get a larger one
