Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Type of Position: Part or Full Time, 30 to 40 hours depending on nannyís preference
Start Date: August 4 or as soon as possible after this
Location: Chanhassen
Children: 9 year old boy and 7 year old girl
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days, mileage reimbursement
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday start at 7:15 AM This job is 30 to 40 hours per week, depending on what the nanny would like. The schedule will vary depending on school year or summer and does require that the nanny be flexible and able to work some evenings or overnights.
Additional Qualifiers: Child care experience with school age children, ability to perform household management tasks, lives close to Chanhassen, CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain
Description: This job is a combination of child care, which includes transportation to activities, and household management. The nanny is responsible for before and after school care and full day care on non school days. She could have time during the day for personal activities. While the children are in school or summer activities, the family would like the nanny to do shopping, laundry, errands, meal preparation and general management of household. It's important that the nanny can be flexible as needed and is experienced, energetic and can help the children with school work.

Type of Position: Part Time, 33 hours in three days
Start Date: September 2 is the ideal, could consider later September

Children: 4 year old girl, 2 year old boy and infant due in late December
Compensation: $15 to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Wednesday 7:00 AM to 6:00

Additional Qualifiers: 2+ years of child care experience with infant, toddler and preschool age children, CPR certified, 2 or 4 year college degree related to working with young children is preferred but not required

Description: This fun active family is seeking a nanny who ideally will be a part of their family for many years. Education is important to the parents and they would like a nanny who will incorporate structured educational activities into the day. The older children will be in part time preschool. The mother will be home on maternity leave for four months so itís important that the nanny is comfortable with this. A nanny who is an organized multitasker and enjoys getting out in the community with the children will thrive in this great job. This family has successfully employed nannies through our service.

Type of Position: Part Time, 20 hours in two days

Location: Lake Elmo
Children: 3 year old boy/girl twins, 6 1/2 year old girl and 8 year old boy
Compensation: $16+ an hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday and Tuesday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, they can be a little flexible on the start and end times and can lengthen the day to provide a few more hours if the nanny would like this. They cannot be flexible on the days.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool and school age children
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the preschool age twins. Both the older children are in school from 9:00 to 5:00 daily. So, the nanny just needs to get them breakfast and out to the school bus. The twins enjoy lots of outings and activities in the community.  This family successfully employs a nanny through our service who works three days per week.

Type of Position: Full Time, 40 hours in 4 days
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Minneapolis, Kenwood, near Lake of the Isles
Children: 2 1/2 and 4 1/2 year old boys
Compensation: To $720 per week ($18 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with  preschool age children, ideally some college education, knows how to swim, CPR or willing to obtain
Description: An active nanny who enjoys getting outdoors is a great fit for this family. The older boy attends Montessori school every morning and the younger boy attends a neighborhood nursery school two mornings per week. The nanny needs to use her own car to transport the boys and the family reimburses for mileage. It's important to the parents that the nanny is enthusiastic about doing projects, reading, working on letters and numbers, outdoor activities and planning playdates for the boys.

Start Date: September 25
Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Harriet
Children: 9 month old boy and 2 year old girl
Compensation: To $810 per week ($18 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, there may be days that the nanny would need to work later for additional compensation
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with infant and toddler age children and multiple young children
Description: A nanny with a positive attitude is extremely important to this family. The older girl will attend part time preschool and the primary care is for the younger boy. The family loves being outdoors and are seeking a nanny who enjoys getting outdoors with children.  There are times when the father will be travelling and the mother would appreciate if the nanny could work later on some days for additional compensation.
Pets: Two dogs that are a mix of Poodle and King Charles Spaniel, non shedding, each is about 20 lbs


Type of Position:  Part Time, 25.5 hours
Start Date:  August 25 or as soon after this as possible
Location: Minneapolis, South, Kingfield neighborhood, near 36th St and Lyndale
Children: 10 month old girl and 4 year old boy
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays and paid sick days and mileage reimbursement
Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for multiple children, current CPR or willing to obtain. College degree is preferred but not required. It's important that the nanny is comfortable with transporting two children and can navigate stairs while holding a child.
Description: A nanny who wants to partner with parents in raising honest, emotionally intelligent and curious children will enjoy this job. It's important that the nanny reads, engages in creative play, incorporates gross motor activities and creates crafts with the children. The older boy attends preschool four mornings per week so much of the nanny's time is with the younger girl. On the day with no preschool, the parents would like the children to get out in the community for age appropriate activities.
Pets: One Airedale Terrier who is sweet and likes to be in the same room as the family, great with kids


Type of Position: Full Time (see detail below)
Start Date: September 8 is the ideal but could consider later
Location: St Louis Park near Cedar Lake
Children: 4, 7 and 8 1/2 year old girls
Compensation: To $19 an hour, depending on qualifications. This is a salaried position.
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance The family provides a minivan for transporting the children.
Hours/Days: The hours will vary depending on whether the children are in school or not. On school days the typical hours would be Monday through Friday 11:30 AM to 6:30 PM with one night per week extending to 9:30 PM. They could be a bit flexible on the 6:30 PM ending time. If possible, they would like the nanny to start earlier at 9:30 AM on 1-2 mornings per week for grocery shopping or errands. On non school days, the hours would be 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM with no extra hours for date night or grocery shopping or errands. Over a one year period, the job averages 40-44 hours per week and the salary would be fixed based accordingly based on the average work week.
Additional Qualifiers: Several years of experience caring for school age children, able to juggle multiple priorities, take initiative and be flexible as weekly hours and job priorities will change depending on the school hours for the week.
Description: The parents are looking for a nanny and household manager who will operate as a key member of their family. They are a busy household with two working parents and three active children and focus on creating a loving and nurturing environment in which children can grow. The girls enjoy swimming, biking, art projects, board games, playing outside and with other children in the neighborhood. The parents have employed nannies successfully for over eight years ad have always valued them and treated them like members of the family.

Type of Position: Part Time, 24-32 hours per week in 3 to 4 days, depending on what the nanny would like, Fridays off, see below
Start Date: ASAP
Location: St Paul, Grand Avenue
Children: 9 month old boy, 5 year old girl and 9 year old boy
Compensation: To $18 an hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays
Hours/Days: Monday through Wednesday or Monday through Thursday, 6 to 10 hours per day, up to 32 hours per week. The family can be flexible on how many hours per week (24 to 32) that they employ a nanny and what the schedule would be. If the nanny would like to work 8 hours per day, the preferred schedule would be 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM but they can also be flexible on this.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants, some college education, CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain
Description: The number one priority for the parents is for the nanny to provide a safe and enriching environment with planned activities for the children. They live in a great neighborhood with many parks and nearby walking destinations. Once school starts, the two oldest will be in full day preschool and school so the youngest will be the primary child needing care. The family enjoys spending time together in the outdoors and outings in the community. Healthy eating is very important to them.
Pets: Two friendly and well behaved dogs, lab and lab mix


Type of Position: Part or Full Time, Household Manager/Administrator, 30 to 40 hours per week (see below)
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Southwest Metro
Children: 3 teenagers
Compensation: To $24 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and vehicle provided for transporting children and related job duties
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, the family can be flexible on the starting time and schedule but does need the household manager to work until 5:00-5:30 most days and will guarantee at least 30 hours per week. If the employee also wants to assume the weekly housecleaning duties, this is an option for an additional 10 hours per week. 
Additional Qualifiers: Previous experience as a household manager/administrator with references from previous employers, able to manage electronic family calendar, good creative healthy cook, relates well to teenagers
Description: This family is looking for an experienced household manager with a positive outgoing personality to keep a busy family organized. She must be able to relate to active teenagers and like dogs. Great organizational skills and ability to manage the technology aspects of a family calendar are a must. Children related duties include scheduling kids' activities, maintaining family calendar, driving kids as needed and coordinating kids' chores. Household duties include laundry, changing bed linens, light daily housecleaning and general organization. This person must also be able to coordinate menu and prepare healthy and creative meals. In addition, she will run errands, assist with grocery shopping, arrange for household repairs, keep the family car fueled, cleaned and serviced. If she wants to work up to 40 hours per week, she can assume the weekly house cleaning duties. This family successfully employed a nanny referred by our service for over 11 years.
