Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field

Location: Edina
Children:  1 year old boy
Compensation:  To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday with variations depending on the parents' work schedules. Nanny will know her schedule one month in advance. She needs to be able to start as early as  7:00 AM and work as late as 6:00 PM, some weeks will be more hours than others.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infants/toddlers, bilingual (Spanish English)
Description: The parents are seeking an experienced nanny who is caring, responsible and dependable and can provide a safe loving stimulating environment for their son. They would like him to get out in the community for socialization experiences. The parents would like the nanny to feel comfortable in their home, like part of the family and respected for her work. There are grandmothers who currently alternate visits and stay at the home for three months at a time. They do not speak English nor drive.  The parents would like to have another child in the next year and are seeking a nanny who could be with their family for several years.

Type of Position: Full Time, 4 days per week, 40 hours
Start Date: May 23
Location: Minneapolis, Fulton neighborhood (Lake Harriet)
Children:  10 month old girl and 4 year old boy 
Compensation:  $17 to $20 per hour, depending on  qualifications
Benefits: Paid holidays, vacation and health insurance stipend

Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 7:15 AM to 5:15 PM

Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infant to preschool age children, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain, a background in education with a 2 or 4 year degree is preferred.
Description: The parents are looking for a nanny who loves children and looks forward to spending the day with their kids. It's important that the nanny is a good communicator and will take pride in caring for the children. A nanny who can engage the children in active and creative activities inside and outside the home and enjoys outings in the community will enjoy this job. The older boy attends part time preschool. The family is an active outdoor family that enjoys living near the lakes and creek. They have employed a nanny previously through our service.
Pets: Small well behaved dog

Type of Position: Part Time, 3 days, with opportunity for additional evening/weekend hours, to 30 hours per week
Start Date: June is ideal but they can be somewhat flexible on the start date, what is most important to the family is finding the right person
Location: Minneapolis, Linden Hills
Children:  1 year old girl and 3.5 year old boy 
Compensation:  Up to $20 per hour, depending on  qualifications
Benefits:  Paid holidays and paid sick days
Schedule: This family is seeking a nanny to work three days per week. One of those days needs to be Wednesday 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM. It would be most ideal if the nanny can also work on  Monday and Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM but they can consider a Thursday and can be flexible on start/end times on these two days.  There is the opportunity for additional hours on weekends or evenings, up to 30 hours per week.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infant to preschool age children, experience working with children with special needs, ideally experience with feeding tubes, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain.
Description: The parents are seeking a nanny who has an understanding of child development and will enjoy her time with their children. The older boy is in school most days and there is occasional driving involved. Most of the care required is for the happy, smiley one old girl who has some special needs and a feeding tube. This family enjoys music, art, reading and getting outdoors. They live in a great neighborhood with lots of children near Linden Hills and Minnehaha Creek.

Start Date: May 15
Location: Minneapolis Downtown for initial 4 months, the family plans to move Edina or SW Minneapolis
Children:  1 year old boy and baby due in October
Compensation:  Up to $900 per week, depending on  qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays and paid sick days and will consider a contribution
Schedule:  Monday though Friday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, some flexibility to start earlier and/or stay later
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with infants and toddlers required
Description: The parents are seeking a patient energetic nanny who will provide great care for their fun and active son. They would like the nanny to engage him in creative and educational play and get outdoors. The mother will take a leave when the baby is born in October but still will employ the nanny full time. This family is moving from out of town and staying short term in an apartment downtown in the North Loop. they plan to purchase a home in Edina or SW Minneapolis.

Type of Position: Full Time, 40 hours
Start Date: May 23
Location: Minneapolis South, Kingfield neighborhood near 35 W and 46th St
Children:  7 month old boy and  22 month old boy
Compensation:  Up to $825 per week, depending on  qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays and paid sick days
Schedule:  Monday though Friday 9:15 AM to 5:15 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Extensive experience with infants and toddlers required, experience with special needs children is strongly encouraged, also encouraged is experience with multiples, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain.
Description: The 7 month old is a typically developing child who is strong bubbly, cheerful and just a sweetheart! The 22 month old is a special needs child who is very healthy. he is inquisitive, determined, energetic, loving and very cuddly. He is quite delayed in mobility, speech and feeding. He is supported by a team of therapists who come to the home. The boys need a nanny who can organize and execute a flexible schedule for their playtime, meals and naps and integrate therapy for the older boy into the day. The nanny will not be alone in her care for the boys. The boys' grandmother has been in charge of their care but she wants to transition to more part time hours. She still plans to be at the home for 4-6 hours per day lending a hand and taking part in the care for the boys. The parents are loving and nurturing, consistent, easy going and creative people. They want to learn from and collaborate with the nanny on the boys' care and development.

Start Date: Ideal is June 20
Location: Minnetonka, near Ridgedale
Children:  Infant due in July, 2 year old boy and 3 1/2 year old girl
Compensation:  Up to $935 per week, depending on  qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance. The family provides a minivan for transporting the children.
Schedule:  Monday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM and on Friday 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant, toddler and preschool age children, minimum of two years of nanny experience, first aid knowledge
Description: The parents are seeking a competent caring nanny with a warm personality to provide excellent care for their children. They are a rather relaxed couple who are close to their families and value a good sense of humor. Learning and stimulation is important to them and they desire a nanny who will engage the children in age appropriate activities both in the home and out in the community. The older girl attends preschool part time. The nanny must be comfortable with a parent sometimes being home and grandparents who will stop by occasionally. On most Mondays and Fridays, a parent or grandparent will be home. This is when they would envision the nanny would work on family laundry, grocery shop or enjoy some one-on-one time with a child. This family, currently and in the past, successfully employed a nanny through our service and it's been a very positive experience for all. Due to changes in their family and needs, they are seeking to hire a new nanny and hoping to develop a similar close, friendly and comfortable relationship.

Location: St Louis Park
Children:  2 month old boy
Compensation:  To $800 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Typically the nanny will work Monday through Friday weekdays but there is some flexibility required depending on the parents' work schedules. Some weeks, the nanny may not work all five days and there may be very occasional weekend hours. You need to be able to start as early as  7:15 AM and work as late as 6:00 PM. Some weeks will be more hours than others. The nanny will know her schedule at least 4-5 weeks  advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infants, current CPR, First Aid and SIDS or willing to obtain, willing to travel on vacation with the family a couple times per year (all expenses paid), must be comfortable with very large dogs
Description: First and foremost for the parents is that the nanny provides warm loving quality care for their son.  Due to their unusual schedules, there will be times that a parent is at home and wants to spend time with the child. In this situation, they would like the nanny to be proactive and help them with errands, cooking and laundry. The parents are both high energy, hard working, easy going and people who are quite optimistic. They are seeking a nanny who is calm, level headed, will help them transition to parenthood and would like to become part of their open loving family.
Pets: Two very large dogs, Bulldog and Akbash. The bulldog is docile and quiet. Once the Akbash gets to know the nanny, then will be ok with her. They will need to be let them out in the yard during the day.

Type of Position: Full time, 36 hours per week in four days or 40 hours per week in four and half days
Start Date: They can be open on the starting date, most important is finding the right nanny for their family. They do need to nanny to start no later than the end of August.
Location: Wayzata
Children:  Infant girl and 2 year old boy
Compensation:  To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. If the nanny would like to work 40 hours, the family can add 4 more hours on Wednesday.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous full time child care employment experience with infants and toddlers
Description: The parents are seeking an experienced nanny who is caring, responsible and energetic and will provide a safe loving stimulating environment for their children. They would like them to get outdoors and out in the community and are within walking distance of downtown Wayzata.  It's important that the nanny can provide them with activities that are age appropriate and encourage their growth and development. The older boy will attend preschool twice a week in the fall. This family is active and enjoys the outdoors and sports.
