Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field

Compensation:  Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM and 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Friday, there would be opportunity for additional hours on days that the boys do not have school
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with preschool and school age children, previous experience with children with special needs or in special education would be advantageous
Description:  The parents are looking for a patient, light-hearted, fun and active nanny who is passionate about children and able to provide clear direction. They need the nanny to help the children get dressed, have breakfast and get organized for the day. The older boy is in school all day and one of the parents will usually drop him off but nanny may need to do this on occasion. The younger boy attends afternoon preschool Monday  through Thursday and nanny will take him. Mornings and all day Friday are spent with the nanny doing fun, active and educational activities both at home and out in the community. Both of the children are energetic, curious, expressive and fun little boys. They both have ADHD and take medication to help them achieve greater balance in emotions and feel less impulsive. They respond well to positive guidance and reassurance.

Type of Position:  Part time, 25 hours per week, could also consider 4 days per week, 21.5 hours (see below)

Children:  13 and 15 1/2 year old girls
Compensation:  Up to $550 weekly for 25 hours or $475 weekly for 21.5 hours, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  Monday through Friday or Monday through Thursday, 2:00 to 5:30 pm plus approximately 7.5 flexible hours based on the family's or nanny's schedule.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience. Experience with teens, ADHD and/or anxiety is preferred. Creative person is a plus. 
Description:  The parents are looking for a caring and active nanny who will be a support system, driver and role model for their two adolescent daughters. Be available to pick up from school, take to activities and appointments. Supervise at home, help with homework, provide companionship. The additional 7.5 hours per week are to provide household management-errands, shopping, coordinate household maintenance etc. these duties can be performed based on the nanny's schedule. This family employed the same nanny, referred by our service, for 15 years. The mother in this family does office from home so nanny needs to be comfortable with this.

Description: The parents are looking for a nanny who loves children and looks forward to spending the day with their kids. It's important that the nanny is a good communicator and will take pride in caring for the children. A nanny who can engage the children in active and creative activities inside and outside the home and enjoys outings in the community will enjoy this job. The older boy attends preschool 9:00 to 3:00 four days per week. So, the majority for the care is for the younger girl. The family is an active outdoor family that enjoys living near the lake and creek. An active high energy nanny who enjoys getting outdoors daily for physical activity is a great fit for this family.

Type of Position:  Full or part time, 30-40 hours in 3-5 days per week,  the family can be flexible to consider what works best for the nanny

Schedule:  The ideal schedule for the family is a three day work week with longer days Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday so a four day work week Monday-Thursday with Fridays off. However they can be flexible on the schedule, total number of hours and start/end times. Most important is finding a great nanny for their family!
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with infant, toddler and preschool age children and household management, college education preferred, lives near Edina/Western suburbs so does not have long commute 
Description:  This family is seeking an experienced career nanny who is patient, nurturing, safety oriented and creative. The parents want to reward and work with a nanny and treat her as part of the family. They want her to be happy and thrive in this job as happy nanny means happy kids! The children are sweet, energetic and thrive on routine. The nanny must be comfortable with a mother who will be at home about 50% of the time. Both older children are in preschool part time. Mom is very involved with the two older children and needs someone that she can trust to stay home with the infant. She would also like to have one-on-one time with each child so the nanny would at times care for two children, seldom all three. They are an active family and enjoy weekends as a family at a pool, park or engaged in creative play inside. Nutrition and minimal screen time is important. The mother also needs help with laundry, dishes, small household tasks, putting away toys, organizing and errands.

Children:  1 1/2 year old girl and 3 1/2 and 5 year old boys
Compensation:  Up to $20 per hour, $700 per week, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  The schedule rotates every three weeks; week one is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM, week two is Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM and week three is Wednesday 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Thursday and Friday 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM. Two out of three weeks, nanny will have a 4 or 5 day weekend. There may be 4-5 Saturdays per year that the family will need the nanny to work.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience working with toddlers and preschoolers, 5+ years experience in the child care field, current CPR or willing to obtain, comfortable with animals in the home
Description:  The nanny will be expected to provide all day caring and loving care for the toddler girl and the two older boys who will be home about 60% of the time. They will be attending 1/2 day preschool form 9-1:00 daily. The preschool is close to their home and nanny will need to drive the boys. It is preferred that the nanny use her own car, however, the family could also consider providing a car for this purpose. This family enjoys outdoor active play. The kids love reading, puzzles and building.  Their home has a fenced yard and is in a quiet family friendly neighborhood close to a park with soccer fields, playground and ice rink.

Type of Position:  Part time, 13 to 18 hours per week in 3 days, see below
Start Date:  September, ideally no later than October
Location: Falcon Heights, near U of M St Paul campus
Children: 6 1/2 year old girl, 3 1/2 and 2 year old boys and baby due in November
Compensation:  Up to $22 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM as a minimum and the family could employ a nanny up to 18 hours per week if she'd like to work a full day on Friday

Description:  The parents are looking for an experienced child care provider with a calm personality. They would like the children to get outdoors as weather allows and go to the near by park or library. The parents do understand the this may not be possible with an infant once the mother returns to work.  The children enjoy play at home and reading.  The older girl is in first grade and the parents will drop and pick up at the bus stop. The 3 1/2 year old boy will be in preschool on Tuesday morning and nanny will need to walk him to the bus stop and parent will pick him up.

Type of Position: Full time **Live In** Nanny/Household Assistant
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Maple Grove, on Fish Lake
Children:   7 1/2 and 9 year old girls
Compensation:  $600 per week plus room and board, car and gas, phone and gym membership
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and medical insurance.
Schedule:  Monday through Friday, before and after school care and full day care if the girls do not have school. Daytime during the school year is the nanny's personal time but she needs to be available if one of the girls is sick. Some evening and weekend hours are required. There may times when the nanny has full 24 hour care of the girls if the parent is travelling. This is offset by paid time off.  It's important that the nanny is  flexible to work with the parent regarding schedule.

Description: This single parent, Widower father, family is seeking a nanny/household assistant who will provide great care and companionship for the girls, provide transportation for them and  also help with laundry, general organization, scheduling, errands and light housework. It's important that the nanny can help the girls with homework and organizing their rooms and belongings. They enjoy play with neighbors, going to the gym and pool, boating and cooking with their dad. There is a 500 square foot furnished bedroom with a fridge, couch, sink and large TV in the lower level of the home for the nanny. There is also a full kitchen in the lower level that is not completely private from the family but effectively is, as well as the lower level. Description: The parents are seeking a patient, honest, kind and loving nanny who will nurture their daughter, maintain her well being and enrich her life. The child is a happy, engaging and alert infant, so it is important that  the nanny be able to stimulate and engage with her when she's awake (i.e., reading, talking, music, sensory experiences etc.) and balance that with quiet time for the child to rest and restore. The priorities for this infant are to nurture and be attentive to her needs so that she  feels secure and loved. Duties include regular Nanny duties: feeding, eventually food preparation for the child, play time, keeping her safe, maintaining a clean and safe environment etc. In addition, the family would like the nanny to have the nanny bring the infant to visit with her great grandmother several times a week, and eventually things like music class, museum, story time and other activities. Strong communication skills appreciated. A nanny with a great relationship with the family and child could be invited to join the family on travel vacations as well! 
Pets: One 120 pound Newfoundland who is friendly and good with the baby, while there is a yard, a short walk with the dog once a day or as needed would be appreciated.

Children:   6 1/2  year old boy and 9 year old girl
Compensation:  Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  At a minimum, the family needs a nanny to work Monday through Friday, 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM and full days when the children have days off school. The children attend different schools so do not always have the same days off. They prefer to employ someone full time (40 + hours) and they can be flexible on the morning start time and the total number of hours. It would be greatly appreciated if the nanny could work later than 6:00 PM some evenings but this is not required.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with school age children, experience with general household management tasks, open to consider an older nanny and/or someone with minimal English skills
Description: This family is seeking a nanny/household manager who will provide great care and companionship for the children and  also help them with laundry, cooking, errands and light housework. They have successfully employed someone for seven years and are seeking another long term relationship. They are a busy and active family that enjoys entertaining and playing sports.

Description:  This is an active family with two energetic curious boys. They are seeking an energetic fun nanny who is in tune with the needs of each boy and can help them grow individually. It's important that she is a strong communicator and can have a good relationship with the parents.  This is a great neighborhood with many young children and there are parks within walking distance. The family has memberships to the MN Zoo and Children's Museum and the parents encourage outings and various activities in the community. They are looking for a long-term relationship with a nanny who encourages their children's learning and  development, supports their transitions and can help them build confidence around new endeavors.

Description: The ideal candidate is someone who is caring, patient and outgoing, has a positive attitude and will actively engage in play. The parents are seeking a nanny who will challenge their son's curiosity and approach their day and his activities with enthusiasm. He is a bright creative child who will be attending part time morning preschool in the fall. They also need a caregiver with experience with newborn/young infants to provide quality care for their daughter who is due in August. A nanny who incorporates educational opportunities for the children throughout the day is important to the parents. Both parents work from home offices, the father spends more time away from home during the week. This family lives in great neighborhood with many young children and close to the lake. Their home has a large lower level play space and backyard accessible off the kitchen/family room area.

Description: This family is hoping to find a nanny who will tag team with the parents in providing care for an engaging 14 month old girl with fragile medical status and a bright joyful 4 year old boy as well as help with household tasks. The older boy is in preschool and summer camps much of the day. The nanny must have experience or strong interest in working with children with special needs, including a feeding tube. The is a great position for a student or someone who lives near the family in southwest Minneapolis, Linden Hills.

Schedule:  The ideal would be if the nanny is flexible to work five 9 hours days or four 11 hour days depending on the week and parent's work schedules. This could be determined with advance notice. However, the family is open to considering nannies who can only work five days per week/ 9 hours per day. If five days per week, the schedule would most likely be 7:45 AM to 4:45 PM. If the nanny can work four longer days some weeks, she would start at 7:00 AM and work until 6:00 PM.

Description: This family is seeking a healthy, active, outgoing nanny who is ready to take care of an extroverted, positive and energetic 1 year old. The nanny must also be comfortable with the possibility that the father may be home one day per week while the nanny is working. He usually uses this time to take care of chores/tasks around the house. This family is very physically and mentally active. They are thrifty problem solvers who live in a small house because there fewer things to take care of which leaves more time for adventure. The parents are flexible people who thrive on change. They have successfully employed a nanny this past year through our service. However, due to schedule changes for the parents, they now need to hire a new nanny.

The parents would also like the nanny to take her to nearby children's activities where she can routinely interact with other children. Description: This is a great family that has employed nannies through our service for several years. As the children transition to full day school, they need less child care but are willing to pay for extra hours so the nanny is available for non school days as needed. The children are in school 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM so the nanny is responsible for before and after school care and transportation to after school activities.   They also would like some help with basic tidying up.

Type of Position: Full time, 4 1/2  days, 45 hours
Start Date:  Mid to late October
Location:  Minnetonka, near Highway 169 and Cedar Lake Road
Children:  3 month old and  2 1/2 year old girls
Compensation:  Up to $810 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule: Monday through Thursday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Friday 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM, some days the start and end times could vary by 1/2 to 1 hour so the family needs a nanny with flexibility to accommodate this

Description: The older girl will be morning preschool and most days the nanny will need to drop off and pick up, 5 minute drive from the home. The nanny's primary responsibility will be caring for the infant with before and after school care for the older girl and putting her down for an afternoon nap. This is a busy family that values active living and healthy meals.  They are moving back to Minnesota to be closer to family and nanny needs to be comfortable with an occasional call from grandma that she wants to stop by to see the girls.

Schedule: Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers:  Experience with infant to preschool age children, current CPR/First Aid and vaccinations or willing to obtain, background in child development or education is a plus
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to provide quality loving care for the children.  It is important to the parents that she engage them in age appropriate activities, spend time in the fenced backyard, go to parks and library and get together for play dates with cousins who live nearby. They also have a great basement play area for active gross motor play. The older girl will be in preschool two mornings per week and bussed from the home. She has been wearing hearing aids since infancy so the nanny will need to learn how to put them in.  This family values healthy eating, activity, getting outdoors, spending time with family and time at home together on the weekends.

Type of Position:  Part time, 12 hours per week in 2 days, see below
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Plymouth
Children:  14 month old girl
Compensation:  Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and paid  holidays, 12 hours per week guaranteed
Schedule:  Wednesday for 8 hours, either 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and 4 hours on Thursday 1:00 to 5:00 PM. They could possibly consider an alternative schedule so please call our office if you'd like to discuss this.

Description:  The parents are looking for a caring and loving nanny to provide excellent care for their daughter. They would like someone who is very organized, reliable and a good communicator.  The father will be working from home so nanny needs to be comfortable with this.

Location: St Louis Park, near Highways 7 and 100
Children:  3 month old boy
Compensation:  Up to $17 per hour, depending on qualifications

Schedule:  Monday and Tuesday 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Wednesday and Thursday 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM, ability to work as late as 8:30 PM or start as early as 6:00 AM about once per month if one parent is traveling. This can be discussed and planned in advance with the nanny.

Description:  The nanny's primary responsibility is to provide quality loving care for the child. It's important to the parents that the nanny be in alignment with their parenting philosophies or willing to learn/adopt. They are also looking for someone who is a strong communicator and willing to fall in line with their tendency for being scheduled and active. As a family, they enjoy fitness, music and reading and try to live a healthy lifestyle.
