Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Type of Position: Part or Full Time, 30 to 40 hours depending on nanny’s preference
Start Date: August 4 or as soon as possible after this
Location: Chanhassen
Children: 9 year old boy and 7 year old girl
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days, mileage reimbursement
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday start at 7:15 AM This job is 30 to 40 hours per week, depending on what the nanny would like. The schedule will vary depending on school year or summer and does require that the nanny be flexible and able to work some evenings or overnights.
Additional Qualifiers: Child care experience with school age children, ability to perform household management tasks, lives close to Chanhassen, CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain
Description: This job is a combination of child care, which includes transportation to activities, and household management. The nanny is responsible for before and after school care and full day care on non school days. She could have time during the day for personal activities. While the children are in school or summer activities, the family would like the nanny to do shopping, laundry, errands, meal preparation and general management of household. It's important that the nanny can be flexible as needed and is experienced, energetic and can help the children with school work.

Type of Position: Full Time
Start Date: End of June to mid August
Location: Minneapolis, Lake of the Isles
Children: 2 1/2 and 6 year old boys, and 8 year old girl
Compensation: The family offers a competitive salary (at least $16 an hour; more depending on qualifications)
Benefits: Two weeks paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days. The family pays for medical and dental insurance. The family provides a vehicle for transporting the children.
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM; occasionally the parents have events at night or on the weekend and it would be great if the nanny was available to cover some of these, with advance notice.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool to school age children, four year college degree completed or in progress, demonstrated interest in childcare and/or education.
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to provide loving and reliable childcare. During the school year, the two oldest take the bus to school and are gone most of the day. Most of the nanny's time will be spent caring for and playing with the youngest child, taking him to nearby parks, classes, on field trips, play dates etc. The older children get home around 4:15 and then everyone needs dinner and to get ready for bedtime. All three children are home during school vacations and this is a great time to take them on outings to parks, playgrounds, museums, play dates etc. The family is education focused and the parents want the children to participate in activities that are both fun and educational.

Type of Position: Full or Part Time, 32 to 40 hours (see below)
Start Date: Mid to late August
Location: Minneapolis, Linden Hills
Children: 9 month old girl
Compensation: The family offers a competitive salary (at least $15 an hour: more depending on qualifications)
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: The core hours for child care are typically Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM with one day being only until noon due to child attending ECFE class with parent. In addition to this, the family could employ the nanny for up to 40 hours if she is willing to do some household tasks and/or work some evening or weekend hours.  
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant/toddler age children, ability to be flexible with schedule with advance notice, foreign language fluency is highly desirable but not required
Description: Most important to the parents is that the nanny provides loving, high quality and reliable care for their daughter. They are interested in a nanny who engages in educational and other activities to stimulate her; including reading, exploring and hands on play. As she gets older, they want the nanny to seek out available educational programs and activities for her. They live near Lake Harriet with great options for walks in the neighborhood and around the lake in good weather. The mother works from a home office so the nanny must be comfortable with this.

Type of Position: Full Time
Start Date: August 1 would be ideal but could consider later in August
Location: Minneapolis, Linden Hills
Children: 4 year old girl and 6 year old boy
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications. This is a salaried position.
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and the family will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM on school days and 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM on non school days, averages 40+ hours per week. The family could possibly consider having the nanny start earlier on non school days if she wants more hours and is willing to do some household management tasks.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool to school age children, experience with Montessori education is preferred but not required
Description: During the school year, the nanny arrives at the home at 11:00 and will do an errand and then pick up the 4 year old girl at preschool at 12:00. They spend the afternoon doing activities both in and out of the home. The nanny picks up the older boy at school at 4:00. Both children attend a school close to home.  The family is seeking a nanny who is energetic, organized  and able to engage the children in a variety of activities. Both parents work from home offices. The children have grown up with this and respect the boundaries around this. This family has successfully employed two nannies through our service who have  had positive experiences as their nanny.
Pets: Fish and potentially a dog


Type of Position: Full Time
Start Date: September 1
Location: Minneapolis, Downtown near the river
Children: 5 month old girl
Compensation: To $800 per week, ($16 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays and paid sick days and the family will consider a contribution to medical insurance. Off street covered parking is provided.
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, typically 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, however there could be days that this varies as the family does need some flexibility on the schedule
Additional Qualifiers: Previous experience caring for infants, early childhood development background and/or experience caring for preemies
Description: The primary focus of this job is child care. A caring, loving and responsible nanny who likes to hold babies will enjoy this job.  The parents would like a nanny who has child development background and/or has worked with preemies. Their daughter was born premature and while she has no medical needs, they want to make sure she is on track to catch up in her development. The family does plan to move from downtown within the next year but at this time are not sure of where and when this will be.

Type of Position: Part Time, 30-35 hours, will guarantee 30 hours per week, Tuesday through Friday
Start Date: September 16
Location: St Paul, Crocus Hill
Children: 2 year old boy
Compensation: To $18 an hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Generous paid vacation,  paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Tuesday 12:00 to 5:30 PM, but sometimes start as early as 7:00 AM, Wednesday 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM, Thursday 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM but sometimes with a later start time and work until 5:00 PM, Friday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddlers, previous nanny experience is preferred but not required, reliability is very important
Description: A caring, nurturing, active and energetic nanny who likes getting outdoors and out in the community will enjoy this job. The child enjoys reading, music, dancing and physical activity. Most of the job involves child care but there are times that the grandmother will care for him. Then the family would like the nanny to do some light housekeeping, laundry, some errands and meal prep.

Type of Position: Full Time,  for 5-6 months
Start Date: Mid to late August to January 2015, possibly a couple months longer. There is an option for the nanny to continue part time afternoons in the winter if she would be interested.
Location: St Paul, near the river
Children: 4  month old girl and 4 1/2 and 6 year old boys
Compensation: To $20 an hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays and paid sick days, will consider a contribution to medical insurance, family provides vehicle for transporting children
Hours/Days: Tuesday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30-5:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Previous experience with infant  and school age children, preference is someone who has been trained as an educator
Description: The primary focus of this job is to care for the infant girl. Both the older boys are in school full time. Usually, the mother will take them in the morning and then the nanny does need to pick them up in the afternoon at Blake School in Hopkins. Someone with infant care experience who loves to teach, educate and has patience and understanding with young children is a good fit for this job.
Pets: One Border Collie and two cats


Type of Position: Part or Full Time, Household Manager/Administrator, 30 to 40 hours per week (see below)
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Southwest Metro
Children: 3 teenagers
Compensation: To $24 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and vehicle provided for transporting children and related job duties
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, the family can be flexible on the starting time and schedule but does need the household manager to work until 5:00-5:30 most days and will guarantee at least 30 hours per week. If the employee also wants to assume the weekly housecleaning duties, this is an option for an additional 10 hours per week. 
Additional Qualifiers: Previous experience as a household manager/administrator with references from previous employers, able to manage electronic family calendar, good creative healthy cook, relates well to teenagers
Description: This family is looking for an experienced household manager with a positive outgoing personality to keep a busy family organized. She must be able to relate to active teenagers and like dogs. Great organizational skills and ability to manage the technology aspects of a family calendar are a must. Children related duties include scheduling kids' activities, maintaining family calendar, driving kids as needed and coordinating kids' chores. Household duties include laundry, changing bed linens, light daily housecleaning and general organization. This person must also be able to coordinate menu and prepare healthy and creative meals. In addition, she will run errands, assist with grocery shopping, arrange for household repairs, keep the family car fueled, cleaned and serviced. If she wants to work up to 40 hours per week, she can assume the weekly house cleaning duties. This family successfully employed a nanny referred by our service for over 11 years.

Start Date: September 2
Location: Woodbury
Children:  3 year old boy and 1 year old girl 
Compensation: To $465 per week ($16 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days
Hours/Days: Wednesday and Thursday 7:15 AM to 6:00 PM and on Friday 7:15 AM to 2:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler and preschool age children
Description: This family is seeking a caring, responsible and dependable nanny. They live in a great neighborhood with parks nearby and are comfortable with the nanny taking the children to community activities near their home. The older boy attends part time preschool which is about a mile from the home and the nanny will need to transport him.
