Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Start Date: ASAP
Location: Bloomington, near Normandale and #494
Children:  10 month old girl and 5 year old boy
Compensation: To $800 per week, ($17.75 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday,  7:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for two young children, previous nanny experience, reliable vehicle and experience with driving children to activities, experience with children with ADHD is desirable
Description: The parents are seeking a warm and energetic nanny who will provide quality loving care for children. They are an active family, enjoy getting outdoors, spending time with extended family and live close to parks. The older boy has ADHD and attends preschool in Minnetonka every afternoon. The nanny drives him so it's important that she has a reliable car and be willing to provide transportation. The family reimburses for mileage. The only reason the family is seeking a new nanny is because their current nanny is expecting a baby.

Type of Position: Full Time
Start Date: May 1
Location: Bloomington, near Penn and #494
Children:  3 month old
Compensation: To $18.00 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays
Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday,  7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, hours may sometimes vary by 30 minutes
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants, preferably someone who has raised her own children
Description: The primary focus of this job is child care. The parents are looking for someone who has infant care experience, truly loves babies and will be warm their son. It's important that the nanny personally engages, talks and plays with him.  They do not believe in letting him cry it out and want him picked up and held if he is crying. The nanny must be comfortable with cloth diapering.

Type of Position: Part time
Start Date:  August, could consider earlier start date
Location: Edina
Children:  4 year old boy, 2 year old girl and 2 month old 
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays
Hours/Days:  They will guarantee a minimum of 20 hours per week. The nanny will know her schedule one month in advance. Flexibility is required and the nanny may need to work an occasional evening and occasional 6:30 AM start.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for multiple young children close in age, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain
Description: The parents are looking for someone to whom a positive, encouraging attitude comes naturally. They prefer someone with a calm and kind demeanor who can maintain a consistent family schedule.  The family enjoys outdoor time, walks, reading and board games. They enjoy participating in their church and faith is a part of the children's lives.

Start Date:  May/June
Location: Edina
Children:  3 year old and 1 year old girls and the family expects to have a third child within the next 12-18 months 
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays
Hours/Days: Two to three of the following days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 7:15 AM to 5:30 PM. The number of days needed per week will vary but the family knows the schedule 4-6 weeks in advance.  They will guarantee a minimum of 22 hours per week.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for multiple young children close in age, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain
Description: Most important to the parents is that the nanny loves the children and has proven good experience caring for them. The parents are seeking a nanny who will keep the children safe, have fun with them and help around the house if time allows. The older girl attends preschool two mornings per week and the family provides a car for transporting her. They live very close to great neighborhood park and are looking for a nanny that they can have a relationship with for several years.

Location: Excelsior, Cottagewood
Children:  2 1/2 year old girl and 6 year old boy
Compensation: $800+ per week ($16+ per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM and the family would really appreciate if the nanny were flexible to start earlier on occasion for additional compensation
Additional Qualifiers: Previous experience with caring for preschool and young school age children, would like a minimum of a two year college degree, comfortable in water, current CPR/First Aid or willing to obtain
Description: This is the perfect job for a mature, responsible, energetic, fun loving and organized nanny who would like a long term relationship with a family. The family lives in a very social neighborhood so the ideal nanny would be relatively outgoing and help the children nurture friendships and develop good polite social skills. It's important that the nanny enjoys being outdoors and active with the children and spending time at nearby parks and beaches. They also enjoy outings to the zoo, museums, library, arboretum and various classes.  The older boy may occasionally need help with homework. The parents expect the nanny to treat this job professionally and they in turn, treat her as the valued professional that she is.  They see this as a partnership and need someone to be an 'equal partner' with them. They have successfully employed two nannies over the years and are seeking another similar positive experience.

Type of Position: Part Time, average 28 hours per week

Location: St Paul, Crocus Hill
Children: 16 month old boy
Compensation: To$18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Generous paid vacation, paid holidays and will consider medical contribution
Hours/Days: Typical hours are Tuesday and Thursday 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Wednesday and Friday 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM, total 26 hours per week. However, there are about 8 weeks per year that they would need the nanny to work a full day until 5-6:00 PM on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Because of this, the job will average about 28 hours weekly.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddlers, previous nanny experience is preferred but not required. Reliability is very important.
Description: A caring, nurturing, active and energetic nanny who likes getting outdoors and out in the community with children will enjoy this job. The child enjoys reading, music and dancing and physical activity. Usually, the grandmother cares for him on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons but there are about 8 weeks per year that she is not available. The family currently lives near the Cathedral but are moving to the Crocus Hill neighborhood in the fall.

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for twins or multiple infants as a nanny,  in a child care center or as a licensed home daycare provider. Minimum 2 year college degree, CPR/ First Aid certified or willing to obtain
Description: The parents would like an energetic, patient and hard-working nanny to provide loving quality care for their young twin sons. They are seeking a nanny who can be with their family for 2+ years. It is important that the nanny prepares fresh infant/toddler food, plays with the babies, reads to them and can take them to activities as they grow. The nanny will   The older boy is currently in full time preschool and will be in kindergarten in the fall. There may be occasional days that he will be home and the nanny will care for him.

Children:  4 and 2 1/2 year old girls 
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications

Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday 7:45 AM to 4:15 PM, total of 34 hours per week
Additional Qualifiers: Minimum of two years experience working with toddlers or young children close in age, a formal education background is preferred but not required
Description: It's important to the parents that the nanny is able to maintain the routine that they and their previous nanny have established with the girls. They have a designated play area in a bright warm walkout lower level of the home where the girls spend most of the day.  There are also occasional classes and activities in the community that the girls attend. The parents occasionally work from home and have home offices in the upper level of the home. They give hugs and "go to work", and the children respect and understand that they are not to be disturbed. This family enjoys a tidy no clutter home and a nanny who likes this same type of environment would be a good fit for them They had a nanny with them for over three years who left because she is starting her own family.

Location: Shoreview
Children: 3 year old boy, 1 1/2 year old girl and 2 month old girl (the infant currently is cared for at the parents' work place)
Compensation: To $720 per week ($18 per hour), depending on qualifications, will consider an increase in compensation when the infant is cared for in the home, probably at about 6 months of age
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and vehicle provided for transporting the children
Hours/Days: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM are devoted to child care. The family would like the nanny to perform household management duties for an additional 8.5 hours and this can be done on either Monday or Tuesday. However the nanny does need to be available to work 5 days per week.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for multiple young children, ability to develop and implement a daily schedule for the week, provide age appropriate educational experiences and activities
Description: Three days per week, child care for the two oldest is the nanny's primary responsibility. Currently, the infant is not at home. The additional hours are devoted to household management duties as the grandmother cares for the children on Monday and Tuesday. This is a great opportunity for a nanny who is looking for a long term job. The parents are seeking a happy, creative, positive, encouraging, enthusiastic and calm nanny who will create a safe educational environment for their children.

Description: This is a great part time job for the nanny who has experience and energy to care for three young children close in age. The parents are seeking a nanny who will keep the children safe, provide quality care, play with them and work with them on developmental skills.

Compensation: To $465 per week ($16 per hour), depending on qualifications

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler and preschool age children
Description: This family is seeking a caring, responsible and dependable nanny. They live in a great neighborhood with parks nearby and are comfortable with the nanny taking the children to community activities near their home. The older boy attends part time preschool which is about a mile from the home and the nanny will need to transport him.
