Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field

 


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Hours/Days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7:15 AM to 5:15 PM, (off on Tuesdays)
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and toddler age children and more than one young child at a time, CPR or willing to obtain, college education related to working with young children is a plus
Description: These parents are seeking an experienced infant and toddler care provider who is caring, kind,  patient, loves learning and is creative, responsible and dependable. This is a great job for a long term nanny who provides a loving environment in which the girls can thrive  and who will engage them in age appropriate play and educational activities. It's important to the parents that the nanny is happy in her job and has a passion for working with young children. They live in a great neighborhood with other young children and have a fenced backyard. The nanny must feel comfortable with mother who offices in the home.

Type of Position: Part Time, 20 hours in two days

Description: The primary focus of this job is to provide the children with quality care and a mix of structured learning activities and unstructured play. The parents are looking for a loving, outgoing and caring nanny who wants to be part of their family. The nanny must feel comfortable with father who offices in the lower level of the home when he is not travelling.

Type of Position: Full Time, average 45 hours per week
Start Date: Mid to late August
Location: Excelsior
Children: 12 1/2 year old boy and 14 year old girl
Compensation: To $900 per week, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday during the school year,  typical start time would be 8:30 AM and the end time usually about 5:30 PM. However, the family does require some flexibility. There may be some days that the nanny needs to start earlier or stay later depending on the children's activities and parents work. The nanny could work a split shift or have some personal time off during the day if she would like. But, she would need to be available to work the full day on non school days or if a child is sick. During the summer, the schedule also would shift a bit depending on activities.  Although the parents need some flexibility, they can also offer some flexibility to the nanny.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with school age children and household management
Description: Most important to these parents is that the nanny provides caring supervision of the children, transportation to activities, helps them make and do plans for activities and playdates and follows the family plan for homework, chores etc. The children are pretty independent but need help getting to activities and planning/doing things outside the home. The household management tasks include simple meal preparation, laundry, pick up and put away preordered groceries, errands, supervise repair/service people etc. The heavy cleaning is performed by a service. Music is important in the home and the family enjoys outdoor activities and playing games together. The younger boy has high functioning autism and is in the mainstream at school. It is preferred that the nanny use her own car for driving the children and errands and the family will reimburse for mileage.
Pets: Two retired sled dogs who live outside in a kennel and a sweet kitty


Type of Position: Part Time, one to three days per week, will guarantee average of two days, 18 hours weekly
Start Date: End of August through May or June of 2016
Location: Lakeville, near Highway 35 and County Highway #46
Children:  10 week old infant boy
Compensation: $18+ per hour, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation
Hours/Days: Average of two week days per week, 8:00 AM  to 5:00 PM; the days will vary and the family knows the schedule at least 6 weeks in advance. They will guarantee pay for an average of two days per week, some weeks the nanny may work one day and other weeks three days. They also could possibly accommodate a nanny who always has a certain week day that she is not available to work.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for young infants, infant CPR certified or willing to obtain
Description: The parents are seeking an experienced infant care provider who will provide excellent care for and nurture and love their son in his first year. They are fairly active people, busy with work, exercise and activities with friends and are both dog lovers. The father works part time from a lower level home office and usually will have the dogs with him.
Pets: Two dogs, a Black Lab mix and a Boxer and one elderly cat.


Type of Position: Part Time, 28 hours per week in three days
Start Date: September 1
Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Harriett
Children:  3 month old infant boy
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Hours/Days: Tuesday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Thursday and Friday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Description: These parents are seeking an experienced nanny to care for their son. They are a Christian family and are seeking a nanny with similar beliefs.  They are an active family that enjoys outdoors activities. It's very important that the nanny is timely and reliable.

Type of Position: Full Time school year and part time summer, consistent monthly salary, see below
Start Date: Mid July is the preference but they could consider later in the summer for the right nanny
Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Nokomis
Children:  2 year old boy
Compensation: To $630 per week, annually $32,760,  ($18 per hour), depending on qualifications. The family will pay the same salary year around if the nanny desires so she can have consistent income.
Benefits: Paid time off, generous paid holidays and $195 per month contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: During the school year, the hours are Monday through Thursday 7:00 or 7:30 AM to 5:00- 5:30 PM and mid May to mid August the nanny works 20 hours per week. The part time summer hours can be flexible and arranged between nanny and family. The mother in this family is a teacher so the nanny works a school calendar schedule and will know this a year in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for young children infant/toddler ages, the family is open to considering a nanny who would like to bring her own preschool age child to the job on some days
Description: The parents are seeking an active, high energy, friendly and social nanny with a sense of humor. The primary focus of this job is to provide excellent care and stimulation for their toddler son. He has mild Cerebral Palsy that affects his gross motor skills only and is incredibly sharp and skilled in all other areas of development. He is a mellow happy kid who needs a nanny that will gently push him outside of his comfort zone, assist in his physical therapy sessions and help ensure he has full dynamic experiences in his classes and activities outside the home. They live in a great neighborhood with many young children and are hoping to find a nanny who wants to settle into a long term well-worn, fun and busy groove with their family.

Description: The primary focus of this job is to provide excellent care for the infant girl. The parents are laid back but expect the very best when it comes to caring for their daughter. They will treat the nanny with respect and expect the same from her with the ultimate goal is that she will feel like part of the family. They are an active family that enjoys outdoors activities.
Pets: One Miniature Schnauzer and one Bengal (hypoallergenic) cat


Type of Position: Full Time,  45 hours per week
Start Date: Any time between July 13 and  August 10
Location: Minneapolis, near Lake of the Isles
Children: 3 1/2 year old girl and 7 1/2 year old boy
Compensation: To $900 per week, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: 15 PTO (paid time off) days, paid holidays and $1000 annual contribution for health care, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the children and to fulfill other work related responsibilities
Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM and 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, when the children have a Friday off from school, the hours on that day may also be until 5:00 PM. The family will ask the nanny to travel with them if she is available and they plan vacations 2-4 months in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with preschool/school age children and household management
Description: Childcare is the nanny's primary responsibility. This includes arranging and supervising age appropriate play, activities and outings and transportation to and from school. It's important that the nanny reads with the children and supervises homework when necessary. The children enjoy physical activity and it's important that the nanny is energetic and active with them and is able to ride a bike. Being familiar with technology is also important in order to participate in managing family calendar, grocery and task lists. The younger child attends preschool every morning. During this time, the nanny performs household management tasks that include laundry, grocery shopping and errands. This family has employed the same nanny for almost seven years and as she leaves to start her own family, this will be an adjustment for all. They are looking forward to developing a relationship with another great nanny for a long term situation.

Description: The primary focus of this job is provide great care for the boys and engage them in age appropriate play and educational activities. The older boy attends preschool part day twice a week. The boys love to go to the neighborhood playground and spend time outside. The parents would like a nanny who will plan trips to the museum, theater, parks etc. The mother works from a home office so the nanny must be comfortable with this. They have successfully employed nannies in the past and would consider hiring a nanny who wants to bring her own child to the job.

Type of Position: Full Time, 39 hours per week
Start Date: August 24 or 31
Location: Roseville
Children: 8 and 4 year old boys
Compensation: To $19 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, the start time is 7:50 AM. The end time varies; 4:30 PM on Monday and Tuesday, 3:50 PM on Wednesday, 4:50 PM on Thursday and 12:30 PM on Friday. The family can be a bit flexible on adjusting the start and/or end times.
Additional Qualifiers: Multiple years experience caring for young school age children, loving to the boys, patient and a good role model, experienced working with other professionals in a team environment
Description: The parents are seeking a nanny who will plan and execute creative activities that promote the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of the children. She will also be transporting the boys to activities, school and appointments and communicating with teachers, therapist and other professionals. The older boy has high functioning autism and is very creative, loving and fun to be around. Most days he is in school or at activities. This family is very active and enjoys being outside at parks, museums, zoos etc. Outings typically involve at least two adults. This job also includes some household management duties, routine errands and light cooking. The mother does not work outside the home but is busy with many commitments and appointments during the week. This family has developed a great team of caregivers and other professionals who work well together. Their current nanny has been with them for 3 1/2 years and is leaving to pursue another career. So, the family is seeking another  mature experienced child care provider to partner with them and their family. They have successfully employed two nannies through our service over the years.

Type of Position: Full Time, 38-40 hours per week in 4-5 days
Start Date: Later in June or in July
Location: St Paul, near the river
Children:  Two 4 month old girls, nanny share
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and possibly a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM (38 hours) is the preferred schedule. The families could also consider four 10 hour days Monday though Thursday or five 8 hour days Monday through Friday.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for multiple infants at once, infant CPR certified or willing to obtain
Description: This is nanny share opportunity with two couples; the mothers are sisters. Both couples had baby girls born in February. They are very close families and live within a few blocks of each other. They are seeking an experienced infant care provider who is energetic, nurturing, patient and dependable. The parents would like to work with someone who can provide a loving environment in which the girls can thrive and be appreciated for their individuality. Both couples enjoy being active, getting outdoors, taking the babies for walks together, cooking and sporting events.
Pets: One family has a friendly Olde English Bulldog


Type of Position: Part Time, 25 hours per week
Start Date: End of August
Location: St Paul, Crocus Hill
Children:  8 and 5 1/2 year old boys
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday 3:00 to 7:00 PM, (nanny could start as late as 4:00 PM) and Friday is a full day,  8:00 AM  to 5:00 PM.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for young school age children
Description: The parents value their time with the boys after work and make it a point to eat together as a family. They enjoy  outdoor activity, reading and spending time together as a family. Monday through Thursday, the nanny will arrive at the home at 3:00, do some kitchen clean up, pick the boys up at school by 4:00, come home, spend time with the boys and prepare dinner.  The parents like to keep the time between coming home and children's' bedtime focused on them and as stress free as possible, thus help with evening kitchen cleaning/dishwashing is expected.  On the full day on Friday, the duties involve grocery shopping, laundry, errands and organizing. Heavy housecleaning is not expected.  This family has had a great experience with a nanny through our service for three years. But, as the boys transition into full time school, the family no longer needs full time nanny.

Type of Position: Part Time, 54 hours in a two week period, see below for details. During non school times, it is hoped that the nanny could work additional hours up to 80 hours in a two week period.

Location: St Paul, St Anthony Park
Children:  Primarily the care is for two 3 1/2 year olds. There are two 6 1/2 year olds that the nanny would care for only on non school days. This is a nanny share opportunity with two families, the mothers are twin sisters.
Compensation: To $19 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM, every Tuesday and every other Friday, are full days,  8:00 AM  to 5:00 PM.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool and young school age children, some college is a plus
Description: The nanny is to primarily care for the two younger children. Both will be in preschool three afternoons per week and the nanny will care for them in the mornings on these days and then bring them to preschool. Every Tuesday and every other Friday are full days. The children enjoy active and age appropriate play and games that encourage development. The two families are very close and the children have more of a sibling relationship than cousins. The parents are fairly laid back and flexible and people who try to get along with everyone and believe in being kind to others. They have successfully employed a nanny for three years through our service. She is moving out of state and the parents are seeking another great relationship with a new nanny for their children.

Type of Position: Full Time Home Manager, salaried position
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Shoreview
Children:  None
Compensation: To $41,600 annually, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation and medical and dental insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday start between 7:00-8:00 AM and be done between 4:00-5:00 PM, there is some flexibility in this. There are also times outside of this regular schedule that you need to drop off or pick up employers at the airport, 2-4 times per month. They could consider employing someone for less than 40 hours, compensation adjusted for this.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous employment experience in home management and cleaning, able to plan and prepare healthy meals,  potential for long term employment
Description: This position is with a busy executive couple. They are looking for a warm, caring and detail oriented person to prepare healthy meals, do housekeeping and laundry, run personal errands, provide pet care and perform miscellaneous household tasks. It's important that you are a self starter, confidential, detail oriented and personally value health and fitness.

Type of Position: Part Time, 24 hours per week in 2 1/2 days
Start Date: Anytime between mid July and late August

Description: The primary focus of this job is to provide quality loving and nurturing care for the three boys. The two older boys are used to going to a daycare center with set curriculum, schedule and activities focused on teaching. The parents would like them to still have some of these types of experiences with the nanny. The oldest boy is in part time preschool and the nanny will need to transport him so she will need a car that can accommodate three slim car seats that the parents will provide.  Mom will be home on maternity leave through November. This family enjoys reading, music outdoor play and spending time together.
