Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Type of Position: Part or Full Time, 30 to 40 hours depending on nanny’s preference
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Chanhassen
Children: 9 year old boy and 7 year old girl
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications

Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days, mileage reimbursement
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday start at 7:15 AM This job is 30 to 40 hours per week, depending on what the nanny would like. The schedule will vary depending on school year or summer and does require that the nanny be flexible and able to work some evenings or overnights.
Additional Qualifiers: Child care experience with school age children, ability to perform household management tasks, lives close to Chanhassen, CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain
Description: This job is a combination of child care, which includes transportation to activities, and household management. The nanny is responsible for before and after school care and full day care on non school days. She could have time during the day for personal activities. While the children are in school or summer activities, the family would like the nanny to do shopping, laundry, errands, meal preparation and general management of household. It's important that the nanny can be flexible as needed and is experienced, energetic and can help the children with school work.

Type of Position: Full Time
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Edina
Children:  5 1/2 year old boy, 4 year old girl,  1 1/2 year old boy and infant due in October,  
Compensation: Negotiable and will be competitive, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance and the use of the family vehicle for transporting the children
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, typical hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. However, there may be days that the family would need the to start earlier or stay later, with advance notice.
Additional Qualifiers: Prior experience caring for multiple young children from infant to young school age children, related post secondary education is preferred but not a requirement, dependable and ability to be somewhat flexible is important
Description: The two older children will be in kindergarten and preschool daily from 8:30 to 3:30 during the school year; so the majority of the child care is for the infant and toddler. The parents are seeking a nanny who will engage the children in age appropriate activities, reading and both indoor and outdoor play. While the infant and toddler are napping and the older children are in  school, the parents expect that the nanny will be planning activities for the children, doing the children's laundry and keeping the house tidy. Helping with meal preparation for the children will also be expected. The father works from a home office when he is not traveling. He sometimes will be available to drive the children to preschool but the nanny may need to help with the transportation on a regular basis. The older boy's bus stop is at the end of the driveway. The kids are active and extremely compassionate toward each other and others around them. The parents are easy going and are looking for someone who is dependable and trustworthy. They are looking for a true addition to their family.

Type of Position: Part Time, 20 hours in two days
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Lake Elmo
Children: 3 year old boy/girl twins, 6 1/2 year old girl and 8 year old boy
Compensation: $16+ an hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday and Tuesday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, they can be a little flexible on the start and end times and can lengthen the day to provide a few more hours if the nanny would like this. They cannot be flexible on the days.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool and school age children
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the preschool age twins. Both the older children are in school from 9:00 to 5:00 daily. So, the nanny just needs to get them breakfast and out to the school bus. The twins enjoy lots of outings and activities in the community.  This family successfully employs a nanny through our service who works three days per week.

Type of Position: Part Time, 15 hours afternoons

Location: Lake Elmo
Children: 8 year old boy and 6 year old girl
Compensation: $15-$16 per hour
Benefits: NA
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday 3:30 to 6:30 pm, additional optional hours on school holidays and sick days
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for school age children, organized and dependable
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to meet the children at the school bus, oversee homework after a short post school playtime and provide occasional transportation to afternoon activities. It's important that the nanny can have fun with the children but also convey strong expectations. This family has successfully employed nannies through our service in the past.

Type of Position: Part or Full Time Nanny/Household Manager, 30 to 40 hours depending on nanny's preference
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Long Lake/Orono
Children: 14 year old boy and 11 year old girl
Compensation: To $800 per week ($20 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and contribution to medical insurance, family vehicle provided for driving the children
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, afternoon/evening hours to approximately 8-9:00 PM, 30 to 40 hours per week. The family can offer flexibility on the schedule. Potential to stay with the children overnight when the parents travel (1-2 times per year).
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with school age children (preteen/teen a plus). College educated, computer literate/proficient, experience or background with children with learning differences, energetic, can demonstrate good morals and values, physically fit and active, CPR/First Aid or willing to obtain
Description: This family has successfully employed nannies through our service for many years. they are a fun, easy going family that likes to spend time together and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. The parents are seeking a nanny who can work with the children on school work. She will also help engage the children in activities and enjoy activities with them during non- school times. The children are enrolled in extra curricular activities and the nanny will help with driving responsibilities from school and to and from activities. The nanny will also assist in dinner preparation and preparing for school the next day. She will also assist with packing and organizing for activities, trips and camps. Other duties include assistance with shopping for the children, doing the children's laundry and other household duties related to the children as well as maintaining the general household. The nanny must feel comfortable with the parents in and out of the home and working in tandem with the mother at times. She must also be comfortable around dogs.

Location: Minneapolis, Downtown, moving to Wayzata later in the fall

Compensation: To $900 per week ($18 per hour), depending on qualifications

Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with  toddler/preschool age children, college education is preferred but not required, someone who wants to grow with the family
Description: The primary focus of this job is to provide love, quality care and a fun stimulating day for the child. This involves reading and play at home and nurturing her development with age appropriate activities. It's also important to the parents that the nanny and child go to the library, classes and have play dates. Grocery shopping for the family would be a bonus. This is an active family that enjoys getting outdoors. They also enjoy travel and would welcome a nanny who could travel with them occasionally.

Start Date: September 8 is the ideal but could consider later
Location: St Louis Park near Cedar Lake
Children: 4, 7 and 8 1/2 year old girls
Compensation: To $19 an hour, depending on qualifications. This is a salaried position.
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance The family provides a minivan for transporting the children.
Hours/Days: The hours will vary depending on whether the children are in school or not. On school days the typical hours would be Monday through Friday 11:30 AM to 6:30 PM with one night per week extending to 9:30 PM. They could be a bit flexible on the 6:30 PM ending time. If possible, they would like the nanny to start earlier at 9:30 AM on 1-2 mornings per week for grocery shopping or errands. On non school days, the hours would be 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM with no extra hours for date night or grocery shopping or errands. Over a one year period, the job averages 40-44 hours per week and the salary would be fixed based accordingly based on the average work week.
Additional Qualifiers: Several years of experience caring for school age children, able to juggle multiple priorities, take initiative and be flexible as weekly hours and job priorities will change depending on the school hours for the week.
Description: The parents are looking for a nanny and household manager who will operate as a key member of their family. They are a busy household with two working parents and three active children and focus on creating a loving and nurturing environment in which children can grow. The girls enjoy swimming, biking, art projects, board games, playing outside and with other children in the neighborhood. The parents have employed nannies successfully for over eight years ad have always valued them and treated them like members of the family.
