Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field

 


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Jobs are listed in alphabetical order based on location.

Type of Position: Full Time, average 40 hours per week, variable schedule
Start Date: June 1 is the ideal start date, could consider June 15
Location:  Edina
Children:  1 1/2 year old girl and 3 1/2 year old boy
Compensation: To $800 per week, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and family provides a vehicle for transporting the children
Hours/Days: This job is typically Tuesday through Friday but there are some weeks that the nanny will also need to work on Monday. The job averages 40 hours per week. There are 13 weeks per year that the nanny needs to be available to start as early as 7:00 AM and work as late as 8:00 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday. The nanny will know these weeks in advance. Usually, the father works from a home office on Thursday and Friday and these days are more typically 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Ideally, the nanny would work an occasional date night.  Although the parents need  flexibility from the nanny, they can also offer some flexibility to the nanny.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddlers and preschoolers, a background in education or nursing is a plus
Description: The mother in this family is a physician with a variable schedule and the father travels 2-3 days per week for his work. So, it's very important to them to have a responsible experienced nanny who is a self starter, can work independently, foster the development of their children and have fun with them. It's important that the children have daily physical activity and community outings and/or playdates. Socialization with other nannies and children is encouraged and memberships to local activities, attractions and musuems would be provided. They don't watch television and the children love books and frequent trips to the library. The older boy attends part time morning preschool and is very verbal and inquisitive. The younger girl enjoys physical activity and ball play. Most of the time, the nanny can use the family's car to transport the children but may need to use her own on occasion and will be reimbursed for this.

Type of Position: Full Time, average 45 hours per week
Start Date: Mid to late August
Location: Excelsior
Children: 12 1/2 year old boy and 14 year old girl
Compensation: To $900 per week, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday during the school year,  typical start time would be 8:30 AM and the end time usually about 5:30 PM. However, the family does require some flexibility. There may be some days that the nanny needs to start earlier or stay later depending on the children's activities and parents work. The nanny could work a split shift or have some personal time off during the day if she would like. But, she would need to be available to work the full day on non school days or if a child is sick. During the summer, the schedule also would shift a bit depending on activities.  Although the parents need some flexibility, they can also offer some flexibility to the nanny.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with school age children and household management
Description: Most important to these parents is that the nanny provides caring supervision of the children, transportation to activities, helps them make and do plans for activities and playdates and follows the family plan for homework, chores etc. The children are pretty independent but need help getting to activities and planning/doing things outside the home. The household management tasks include simple meal preparation, laundry, pick up and put away preordered groceries, errands, supervise repair/service people etc. The heavy cleaning is performed by a service. Music is important in the home and the family enjoys outdoor activities and playing games together. The younger boy has high functioning autism and is in the mainstream at school. It is preferred that the nanny use her own car for driving the children and errands and the family will reimburse for mileage.
Pets: Two retired sled dogs who live outside in a kennel and a sweet kitty


Type of Position: Part Time, 28.5 hours per week in three days, occasional additional hours available if desired
Start Date: Anytime between May and early Fall
Location: Minnetonka, near Ridgedale
Children: 10 month old boy and 2 1/2 year old girl
Compensation: To $22 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days:  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM for a total of 28.5 hours. It would be great, but not required, if the nanny is open to occasional additional hours while a parent is home on Monday or Friday and/or a regular night or weekend option.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and preschool age children, minimum of two years of nanny experience, first aid knowledge
Description: The parents are seeking a competent caring nanny with a warm personality to provide excellent care for their children. They are a rather relaxed couple who are close to their families and value a good sense of humor. Learning and stimulation is important to them and they desire a nanny who will engage the children in age appropriate activities both in the home and out in the community. The nanny needs to be willing to perform some household duties and be comfortable with a parent sometimes working from home and grandparents who will stop by occasionally. This family successfully employs a nanny referred by our service and it's been a very positive experience for all. Due to changes in her life, they are seeking to hire a new nanny are hoping to develop a similar close, friendly and comfortable relationship.

Type of Position: Full Time 
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Medina, border of Plymouth
Children:  1 year old and almost 4 year old boys
Compensation:  $675 per week
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays and sick days
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler and preschool age children, CPR or willing to obtain, ideal but not required is college education related to working with young children
Description: The primary focus of this job is provide great care for the boys and engage them in age appropriate play and educational activities. The older boy attends preschool part day twice a week. The boys love to go to the neighborhood playground and spend time outside. The parents would like a nanny who will plan trips to the museum, theater, parks etc. The mother works from a home office so the nanny must be comfortable with this. They have successfully employed nannies in the past and would consider hiring a nanny who wants to bring her own child to the job.

Type of Position: Full Time, 39 hours per week
Start Date: August 24 or 31
Location: Roseville
Children: 8 and 4 year old boys
Compensation: To $19 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, the start time is 7:50 AM. The end time varies; 4:30 PM on Monday and Tuesday, 3:50 PM on Wednesday, 4:50 PM on Thursday and 12:30 PM on Friday. The family can be a bit flexible on adjusting the start and/or end times.
Additional Qualifiers: Multiple years experience caring for young school age children, loving to the boys, patient and a good role model, experienced working with other professionals in a team environment
Description: The parents are seeking a nanny who will plan and execute creative activities that promote the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of the children. She will also be transporting the boys to activities, school and appointments and communicating with teachers, therapist and other professionals. The older boy has high functioning autism and is very creative, loving and fun to be around. Most days he is in school or at activities. This family is very active and enjoys being outside at parks, museums, zoos etc. Outings typically involve at least two adults. This job also includes some household management duties, routine errands and light cooking. The mother does not work outside the home but is busy with many commitments and appointments during the week. This family has developed a great team of caregivers and other professionals who work well together. Their current nanny has been with them for 3 1/2 years and is leaving to pursue another career. So, the family is seeking another  mature experienced child care provider to partner with them and their family. They have successfully employed two nannies through our service over the years.

Children: 3 month old girl
Compensation: To $900 per week, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday,  typical start time would be 7-7:30 AM and the end time usually about 5:00 PM. However, the family does require some flexibility. There may be very rare days that the nanny needs to start earlier and occasionally on some days stay later. The parents would know this about a week in advance. Although the parents need this flexibility, they can also offer some flexibility to the nanny.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants, CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain
Description: Most important to these parents is that the nanny provides loving quality nurturing care for their daughter. They are both busy professionals seeking a long term nanny to partner with them in child care and some household tasks. Caring for the infant is the most important. Other tasks include light housekeeping, laundry, some errands and preparing a simple dinner a couple days per week. The father does work in a private office at times and may be in and out during the day. This couple enjoys travel, athletic activities and time at their cabin.

Type of Position: Part Time, 30 hours per week in three days
Start Date: June
Location: Woodbury
Children:  1 1/2 year old girl and 4 year old boy
Compensation: $15 to $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays and sick days
Hours/Days:  Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler and preschool age children
Description: This family is seeking a caring, responsible and dependable nanny. They live in a great neighborhood with parks nearby and are comfortable with the nanny taking the children to community activities near their home. The older boy attends preschool which is about a mile from the home and the nanny will need to transport him.
