Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • To be considered, an applicant must have a minimum of one year full time nanny employment experience that is current or very recent and other related child care employment or post secondary education. We are primarily referring nannies that have been placed and/or screened through our service previously. But we will consider new applications from nannies who have current and extensive nanny experience.  Most of our positions are with children birth to 5-6 years of age so employment experience with this age group is required unless the job is with school age children. .
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • Because of the requirements for prior nanny employment experience and preference for post secondary education, applicants will typically be at least 24 years old.
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position:  Part Time, 16 hours per week in 2 days
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Chaska
Children:  7 month old girl during the school year and care also for a 6 year old girl in the summer.
Compensation: Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: NA
Schedule:  During the school year, the preferred days are Monday and Wednesday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. In the summer, the hours remain the same but the days change to Thursday and Friday.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience with infants and young school age children
Description:  The parents are seeking an engaging, caring and kind nanny to care for their infant daughter year around and also her older sister during the summer. They have a park nearby and are a family that values healthy eating.
Pets: None
Type of Position:  Full time, 4.5 days
Start Date: January/February
Location: Edina
Children:  2, 3 and 7 years old
Compensation:  Up to $20  per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Monday through Thursday 7:15 AM to 3:30 or 4:00 PM and 7:15 AM to Noon on Fridays. There may be rare occasions that the nanny would need to work on a Friday afternoon. 
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with toddler to school age children, previous nanny experience, and some education in child development, current CPR or willing to obtain
Description:  This is an active family with three energetic boys. They are seeking an energetic, fun and loving nanny who is a self-starter, takes initiative and is a strong communicator. The boys are in school, preschool and some youth classes so the nanny must enjoy doing outings and various activities with the boys. During non-school days, the family looks to the nanny to plan outings and arrange fun-filled days for the boys. This family has previously employed a nanny through our service. They are looking for a long-term relationship with a nanny who wants to do this as a career and is looking for a family to grow with.
Pets: None currently but they do plan to get a dog

 
Type of Position:  Full time
Start Date:  Mid March
Location: Edina
Children: 1 month old boy
Compensation:  Up to $900  per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and open to discussing a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, there may be an occasional start time  as early as 6:00 AM but there will always be advance notice for this.
Additional Qualifiers: Highly  experienced nanny with preference for a nanny with early childhood and/or music experience,  dog friendly, current CPR or willing to obtain
Description:  Both parent have busy careers and they would like a highly experienced nanny who  can help them with all aspects of childcare. They would like the nanny to bring the baby to the mother's office so she can breast feed and spend some time with him during the day. It would be nice to have a nanny who enjoys music and can expose their son to a variety of cultural experiences. Assistance with household duties would be a plus. But, the most important thing is a loving, calming soul with a gentle heart.
Pets: 13 year old German Short-Haired Pointer and  6 year old English Bulldog
 
Type of Position:  Full time
Start Date: January/February
Location: Hopkins, near 169 and Minnetonka Blvd
Children:  4 and 6 year old boys
Compensation:  Up to $800 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Three days per week, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and two days per week 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The family can be flexible on which days are longer and which are shorter to accommodate the nanny's preference.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous full time child care experience with  preschool and young school ages
Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who  is responsible, mature, a good role model and passionate about making kids their best. It's important to them that she hold the children accountable to rules and practicing safe behavior. The older boy is in kindergarten and the younger boy attends part time morning preschool. The nanny will need to provide transportation for them but both schools are within a few miles of the home. While the boys are in school, the family would appreciate help with basic household chores, grocery shopping, errands, children's laundry and simple dinner prep. This family lives in a great neighborhood with a large yard and the boys are active and enjoy outdoor play.
Pets: One small dog, hypoallergenic, non shedding
Type of Position:  Part time, average 32 hours per week, see schedule below
Start Date: Late March/early April
Location: Minneapolis, Linden Hills
Children:  2 month old girl
Compensation:  $18.75 per hour, guaranteed minimum for 32 hours per week
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid  holidays and paid sick time
Schedule:  The nanny will work 64 hours in a two week period. The schedule varies and the nanny will know her schedule two months in advance. The family can be flexible to accommodate a specific time off request if they know this in advance. The nanny should expect to work five 12 hour shifts and one 4 hour shift in a two week period. The nanny's schedule will generally follow a week on/week off pattern (Tuesday to Monday). During the "on" week, the nanny will work 12 hour shifts on 5 out of 7 days. This may include daytime shifts, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, or evening shifts, 12:00 pm to 12:00 am. Daytime shifts are more common than evening shifts, with a maximum of two evening shifts per week. Some of these shifts are on the weekend during the "on" week.  During the "off" week, the nanny will work one 4 hour shift and this can be quite flexible to be scheduled with the nanny.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience caring for children of all ages, current CPR or willing to obtain, training in early childhood education would be welcome
Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who will create a stimulating, nurturing and safe environment for their daughter. It's important that they spend time reading and engage in age appropriate play, both indoors and out.  The nanny must be extremely reliable due to the lack of flexibility in the parents' jobs. In turn, they will do everything in their power to work with the nanny so she feels welcome and valued.

Type of Position:  Full Time, Nanny/Household Manager, 40 hours per week split shift during the school year and 50 hours per week in the summer, school breaks and on non-school days, see below for more detail
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Minneapolis, East Lake of the Isles neighborhood
Children:  9 and 11 year old boys
Compensation:  Competitive based on experience and fit, any hours worked over 40 per week will be paid time-and-a-half for over time
Benefits: Paid vacation and  holidays and willing to consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  On school days, the morning schedule is Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM, Friday 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The afternoon schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 3:00 to 5:30 PM and Thursday 3:00 to 8:30 PM. This is a total of 40 hours per week. However, if the nanny would like to work different hours between school drop off at 8:30 and pick up at 3:00 and still perform the household management duties, the family is open to this.  During the summer, school breaks and on non-school days, the schedule is 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, total of 50 hours per week.
Additional Qualifiers: Early childhood development/education skills (which can come from experience and/or education) childcare experience with school age children, previous nanny and household management experience is preferred.  Since the family has a severe cat allergy, it is strongly preferred that the nanny lives in a home without cats.
Description:  The parents believe that the right nanny for their family could come from a number of different backgrounds and skill sets. However, it is very important that the nanny has the ability and enthusiasm to engage, play with, guide and teach values to two energetic active fun-loving boys. It's also important that the nanny has household management skills and is able to do laundry, cook, run errands and organizing. This family has successfully employed several nannies through our service and is seeking a partner in parenting. The split schedule during the school year worked well for past nannies who either freelanced in other professions or were taking classes.
Pets: None, though occasionally a relative's dog visits the home (4-6 times per year).
Type of Position:  Full Time
Start Date:  Ideally in February
Location: Minneapolis, East Lake Harriet Parkway
Children:  17 month old triplets, two girls and one boy, and a 3 year old girl; it is very rare that one nanny would be caring for all four children.
Compensation:  To $19 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  holidays, year end bonus
Schedule:  35 to 45 hours per week, primarily weekdays but some possible weekend help may be needed. The typical schedule would be Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but this is a bit up in the air as they transition from their current childcare situation.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with toddlers as well as experience caring for multiple young children of various ages at one time. An early childhood education would be nice. Also desired is an appreciation for and willingness to be outdoors.
Description:  Engage, read, play, sing, take walks, explore with the children. This family has employed a full time nanny for three years and her primary responsibility has been to care for the older girl. When the triplets were born, they hired another full time nanny. Now, the first nanny is leaving the job and the family is seeking to hire another full time nanny. The focus, at least initially, will be on the 3 year old-activities, school, library and park trips. making sure she is getting the attention in the way that a 3 year old needs.  Assistance with children's laundry, keeping the house in order and organized, meal prep as needed, and occasional small errands, time permitting, is also expected. If you love activity and young children, this is the job for you!

Type of Position:  Full Time, Household Manager/Nanny
Start Date:  Late May/early June 2017
Location: Wayzata
Children:  10 year old girl and  17  year old twin boys
Compensation:  $800+ per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, willing to consider a contribution to medical, the family provides a vehicle for transporting the younger child and running errands etc
Schedule:  The schedule is typically as follows: Monday and Wednesday 12:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday and Friday 7:00 AM to 5-6:30 PM and Thursday 12:00 to 9:30 PM. They can be somewhat flexible on this. The parents do some travelling and then the nanny would need to stay overnight.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with school age children, experience with household management, mature with good time management skills
Description:  The two older boys are independent and basically just need meals and supervision overnight if both parents are gone. The 4th grade girl needs to be picked up from school, escorted to activities and help with homework. She is a Type 1 diabetic so nanny will need to learn how to help manage this. Household management duties to be performed while she is in school include cooking, shopping, errands, light housekeeping and laundry/ironing. The parents do have busy schedules and occasional week night events. The father has a flexible schedule and is around so he and the nanny work together daily. This family has had the same nanny for 17 years. Her job has evolved from nanny to a home manger and caregiver. She moved to Minnesota recently with the family. However, she wants to be closer to home and her family.
Pets: Two small dogs and they plan to get a larger one
