Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field

 


LIVE IN or OUT NANNY POSITION (full time)

Type of Position: Full Time, approximately 200 hours per month, variable schedule (see below)
Start Date: Early to mid January
Location: Minneapolis, southwest
Children: 6 week old girl and 3 1/2 year old boy
Compensation: To $5,000 per month, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, a contribution to medical insurance and a vehicle provided for transporting the children.
Hours/Days: The schedule is a combination of day, evening and overnight hours that also includes some weekends. The nanny will work about 200 hours per month. The work schedule is available six weeks in advance for the next two month period. The family can be a bit flexible in scheduling with advance notice from the nanny.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for newborns to preschool age children, flexible, mature and reliable
Description: Caring for the children is the primary focus of this job. This is a single parent father home; the mother is recently deceased. The father works a variable schedule and needs reliable, flexible and quality care for his children and help with household tasks related to the children, such as meal preparation, bathing and laundry. The older child attends full day preschool during the school year and the nanny will need to transport him. He spends summers at home. This family lives an active lifestyle, spending time outdoors and on neighborhood excursions. When at home, educational and creative activities are encouraged, with limited screen time. There are family members in the area who are involved and supportive. The father can consider a full time live in nanny or a nanny who chooses to live out but can stay overnight when he is working. There is a bedroom and bathroom for the nanny in the lower level of the home.

LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Type of Position: Part time, 60 hours guaranteed in a two week period (see below for details)
Start Date: January, the family can be flexible to start with a nanny anytime during the month
Location: Eden Prairie
Children: 2 1/2 year old boy and 7 and 9 1/2 year old girls
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays and paid sick days
Hours/Days: The work schedule varies depending on the week and the nanny works four days per week. Typically, the day off is Wednesday but this could change and family may be able to accommodate if the nanny has a particular day she would like off during the week. The work schedule can be determined one month in advance and the nanny and family can work together to make sure there are no conflicts. However, the nanny needs to be able to start work between 6:00-9:00 AM and work as late until 4:00-6:00 PM on three days and one day start a bit later and work a bit later. The total number of hours per week varies and the family guarantees to pay the nanny for 60 hours of work every two weeks. There may be times that she would  need to work more than this for additional pay.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler and school age children, very reliable and can be flexible
Description: Child care is the nanny's primary responsibility. This involves before and after school care for the older girls, activities during the day with the little boy and possibly driving the older girls to activities after school. On non school days, the nanny cares for all three children. During nap time, the parents would like the nanny to help with basic household chores. The parents are seeking a nanny who is willing to work with their family for several years. Reliability, love of children and flexibility with schedule are important to them.  They open to considering a nanny who wants to bring another toddler or older child to work with her. The family lives a healthy lifestyle, is active, spends time outdoors and avoids screen time. They have employed nannies in the past and need to make a change due to relocation. One of their most recent nannies said she has been a nanny for over 20 years and this family is one of her favorites; she felt a part of the family and well respected and trusted. Type of Position: Almost full time, 30 hours per week in three days with an option for additional 1/2 day (see below)
Start Date: Mid January
Location: Edina
Children: 2 and 4 1/2 year old girls
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays and paid sick days
Hours/Days: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 AM to 6:00/6:30 PM  If the nanny is able, they would appreciate if she could also work Tuesday afternoons for the remainder of the school year but this is not required. The schedule will vary some in the summer and the family will guarantee to pay for 30 hours per week average if the nanny can be flexible. This family would love to find a good long term fit with a nanny.  But, starting next school year, they will need only 25 hours of child care per week. They'd be willing to consider employing someone for 30 hours per week if she is a great nanny who is willing to help with household errands/management type activities.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler and preschool age children, willing to get in pool with children, able to lift 35 lbs (younger child still needs assistance with high chair, crib, parking lots etc) Nanny must be a nonsmoker and not live with any smokers (children are highly sensitive to the smell of smoke).
Description: Child care is the nanny's primary responsibility. The parents are seeking a nanny who is intelligent, warm and caring but can still set good limits with the children. It's important that she is active and takes the girls on adventures but also helps them have fun at tome. The older girl is currently at preschool Monday, Tuesday and Friday mornings and the younger attends on Tuesday mornings. They are involved in dance and swimming lessons. So, the nanny must be comfortable providing transportation for them in her own car (family reimburses for mileage and provides car seats). They are an active family that enjoys healthy eating and outdoor activities. The parents like to keep the kids busy but not overscheduled. They are busy professionals who count on their nanny to keep the household running smoothly.

Type of Position: Part Time, 18 hours in two days
Start Date: January 15
Location: Edina
Children: 1 1/2 year old twin boys
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays
Hours/Days: Tuesday and Thursday 7:45 AM to 4:45 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler age children, college education preferred, current CPR/First Aid or willing to obtain
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the boys and provide for their safety. The parents would like the nanny to actively assist in their development through reading, music, language and engaging in age appropriate activities. There is no driving involved with this job.

Type of Position: Part Time, 25 to 30 hours, 2 to 3 days per week (see below)

Location: Maple Grove
Children: 2 year old girl
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays
Hours/Days: The hours for this job are  7:30 AM to 5:30 PM. There are two schedule options for this job. Option #1, the nanny can work Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday one week and the alternate week work only two days, Tuesday and Wednesday. This is 50 hours over a two week period; average of 25 per week. Option #2, the nanny can work Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday every week; total of 30 hours per week.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler/preschool age children, related college education is a plus
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the toddler girl. It's important that the nanny engages her in age appropriate play and plans creative educational activities. During nap time, the parents would like the nanny to help with basic household chores and also be willing to run some errands or do grocery shopping with the child.
Pets: One small hypoallergenic dog.


Type of Position: Part Time, 24 hours, 3 days
Start Date: Mid to late January
Location: Minneapolis, Linden Hills
Children:  2 1/2  year old boy and baby due in May
Compensation: To $17 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays
Hours/Days: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler and infant age children, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain
Description: These parents are seeking a nanny who has an understanding of child development and will enjoy their bright, fun and active toddler son. He attends nursery school two mornings per week and on those days, the nanny will do laundry and light housecleaning for the family in the morning prior to picking him up at 11:30. They would like the nanny to get outdoors and out in the community with him. When the baby is born in May, the mother will be home for a few months but will continue to employ the nanny during this time. When she returns to work, the nanny will care for both children. This family enjoys music, art, reading and getting outdoors. They live in a great neighborhood with lots of children near Linden Hills and Minnehaha Creek.

Type of Position: Almost Full Time, 30-35 hours per week
Start Date: January
Location: Minnetonka
Children: 3 1/2 year old girl and 7 year old boy
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Very generous paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and the family provides a vehicle for transporting the children.
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM with one later evening for a date night. There are occasional mornings that she would need to start early, which the nanny will know at least one week in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with preschool and school age children, ability to adapt to a flexible schedule, current CPR or willing to obtain
Description: This family is seeking a nanny to provide quality consistent care for the children and also help with light housework, laundry and errands. The older boy is in full day school and the younger girl in preschool 4 mornings per week. Typically, the nanny's day starts with picking her up at preschool, come home for lunch, spend the afternoon with her at home or at an activity. Then they will  pick up the older boy from school, come home and help him with any schoolwork and transport to any extracurricular activities. This family is moving to Minnesota and look forward to exploring local activities with their children. The mother works remotely from a home office and the children are accustomed to this.

Type of Position: Part time +, about 1680 hours annually which is an average of 140 per month in a 12 day period.  See detail below.

Location: New Brighton
Children:  4 month old boy
Compensation: $14 to $17 an hour, to about $28,500 annually, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: This family needs a nanny to work a schedule based on the mother's work schedule. This is 12 long days per month, which includes one weekend. Typically the nanny will work 5 consecutive weekdays starting at 6:30 AM and ending generally by 6:00 PM.  Then there is typically one week off. The next work period is 7 consecutive days and includes the weekend. The starting time is 6:30 AM and ending time is same as above except on the weekends it would be between 4-6:00 PM. This is a total of about 140 hours per month.  There is an opportunity to work some additional hours. The nanny will know her schedule three months in advance and the mother has control over which weeks she works. This is a great schedule for a nanny who can be flexible and would enjoy large blocks of time off to pursue other interests or do fill in nanny work for other families.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants, current CPR or willing to obtain, reliability is very important
Description: First and foremost for the parents is that the nanny provides warm loving quality care for their son. They want a nanny who will engage him in age and developmentally appropriate activities in the home, get out for walks in good weather and is comfortable taking him on outings as he gets older. This job has the potential for a long term several year relationship.

Type of Position: Almost Full Time, 30+ hours per week, minimum of 30 guaranteed
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Orono, near Highway 12 and Old Crystal Bay Road
Children:  5 month old boy/girl twins and 4 1/2 year old boy (in full time preschool)
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and paid holidays, the family provides a vehicle for an required child transportation
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to early/mid afternoon, minimum of 30 hours per week
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants, CPR and BLS certified or willing to obtain
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the infant twins. It's important that she have a focus on early childhood education, interacting with the infants throughout the day. The older boy attends full time preschool and the nanny needs to help him get ready in the morning. Usually, the mother will drive him to preschool or she may stay home with the infants while the nanny drives him. But, some days the nanny may need to take the babies with her while driving him. The family enjoys outdoor activities. They are seeking a very reliable, enthusiastic, pleasant and motivated nanny. This family has employed a nanny previously through our service.

Type of Position: Full Time
Start Date: January
Location: St Louis Park
Children: 1 year old girl
Compensation: To $800 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, typically 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM but there may be occasional days that the nanny will need to work later until about 6:00 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Minimum one year experience working as a nanny, experience caring for infant/toddler age children, someone who is of Christian faith
Description: Caring for the child is the primary focus of this job. The parents want a nanny who will engage her, interact with her, read, sing and develop creative activities for her. Their Christian faith the most important aspect of their family life and it's important to them that the nanny shares these same values. Both parents work hard but when work is done, they love to spend time with their daughter.

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and toddler age children and multiple young children
Description: These parents are seeking a nanny to provide quality child care for their two young  children. Their well-being, security, self esteem and simply feeling loved is most important. They would like a nanny that is active, takes the children out in the community, is involved in play dates but also provides fun and educational experiences while at home. The older girl will attend a near by preschool part time in the mornings. They would like to find a nanny who is comfortable with their "down to earth" and Catholic family.
