Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field

 


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Children:  Almost 2 year old girl and baby girl due in October
Compensation:  Up to $720 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7:15 AM to 5:15 PM, (off on Tuesdays)
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and toddler age children and more than one young child at a time, CPR or willing to obtain, college education related to working with young children is a plus
Description: These parents are seeking an experienced infant and toddler care provider who is caring, kind,  patient, loves learning and is creative, responsible and dependable. This is a great job for a long term nanny who provides a loving environment in which the girls can thrive  and who will engage them in age appropriate play and educational activities. It's important to the parents that the nanny is happy in her job and has a passion for working with young children. They live in a great neighborhood with other young children and have a fenced backyard. The nanny must feel comfortable with mother who offices in the home.

The parents are looking for a loving, outgoing and caring nanny who wants to be part of their family. The nanny must feel comfortable with father who offices in the lower level of the home when he is not travelling.

Type of Position: Part Time, 28.5 hours per week in three days
Start Date: September 1
Location: Eden Prairie
Children:  2 year old boy and 4 year old girl
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Hours/Days: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, additional hours are available on some Tuesdays if the nanny is able to work but this is not required
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with toddler and preschool age children and more than one young child at a time
Description: A high energy active nanny who provides structure and incorporates fun into the day will enjoy this family. The parents are seeking a nanny who can build a strong connection with the children, have fun, keep them safe and maintain their daily routines.  They'd like a nanny who can incorporate educational time into the day, especially with the younger boy when the older girl attends preschool on Wednesday and Friday. Outings in the community are encouraged and the children enjoy outdoor play.   It's very important that the nanny is prompt and reliable.

Children:  5 month old infant girl
Compensation:  Up to $1000 per week, depending on qualifications, additional compensation for overnights

Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM and Friday 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM and occasional overnights, nanny would know these nights 2-3 weeks in advance and private bedroom and bath is provided

Description: The primary focus of this job is child care. The parents are seeking an experienced infant provider who is interested in a long term relationship with their family. They are looking for someone to help them provide a safe, fun loving environment for their daughter and who is interested in providing her with fun experiences around the house and neighborhood. As she becomes older, they would like the nanny to take her to organized classes and activities and nursery school. The parents are busy professionals with schedules that provide some flexibility. They would love to offer the nanny flexibility in her schedule when they are able and would appreciate that she can be flexible with them as needed.  The nanny must feel comfortable with mother who occasionally offices in the home.
Pets: One friendly playful terrier who will usually go to doggie daycare, may need help from nanny with drop off or pick up.


Type of Position: Full Time, average 45 hours per week
Start Date: Mid to late August
Location: Excelsior
Children: 12 1/2 year old boy and 14 year old girl
Compensation: To $900 per week, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday during the school year,  typical start time would be 8:30 AM and the end time usually about 5:30 PM. However, the family does require some flexibility. There may be some days that the nanny needs to start earlier or stay later depending on the children's activities and parents work. The nanny could work a split shift or have some personal time off during the day if she would like. But, she would need to be available to work the full day on non school days or if a child is sick. During the summer, the schedule also would shift a bit depending on activities.  Although the parents need some flexibility, they can also offer some flexibility to the nanny.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with school age children and household management
Description: Most important to these parents is that the nanny provides caring supervision of the children, transportation to activities, helps them make and do plans for activities and playdates and follows the family plan for homework, chores etc. The children are pretty independent but need help getting to activities and planning/doing things outside the home. The household management tasks include simple meal preparation, laundry, pick up and put away preordered groceries, errands, supervise repair/service people etc. The heavy cleaning is performed by a service. Music is important in the home and the family enjoys outdoor activities and playing games together. The younger boy has high functioning autism and is in the mainstream at school. It is preferred that the nanny use her own car for driving the children and errands and the family will reimburse for mileage.
Pets: Two retired sled dogs who live outside in a kennel and a sweet kitty


Type of Position: Full Time, 45 to 50 hours per week

Location: Hopkins
Children:  3 month old boy at home and two older children, 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 years old, who attend daycare
Compensation:  Up to $900-$1000 per week, depending on qualifications and the number of hours
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM or fewer hours if the nanny prefers, they can be somewhat flexible on start and end times
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant age children and with household management duties
Description: The parents are seeking an experienced infant provider and someone who can provide help and support with household tasks for their busy family. They have weekly housecleaning but would like the nanny to do the children's laundry, help keep things organized, do some dinner prep, run occasional errands etc. The two older children are in daycare/preschool and will continue this. The nanny only will care for them if they cannot attend for a day and the parents transport them.

Description: These parents are seeking an experienced child care provider for their son because they want him to have individual care and consistency. It's important to them that she is nurturing, patient and provides engaging activities that are age appropriate for his development.  They would love to hire a Chinese speaker and are willing to consider additional compensation for this.

Type of Position: Part Time, average of 12 week days per month for a 10 hour day, 120 hours per month
Start Date: Mid September through mid July of 2016
Location: Minneapolis, near Lake Nokomis
Children:  12 week old infant girl
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Hours/Days: Average of 12 week days per month, 7:00 AM  to 5:00-5:30 PM; the days will vary and the nanny will know the schedule for the year by the end of August

Description: The primary focus of this job is to provide excellent care for the infant girl. The parents are laid back but expect the very best when it comes to caring for their daughter. They will treat the nanny with respect and expect the same from her with the ultimate goal is that she will feel like part of the family. They are an active family that enjoys outdoors activities.

Description: This family is looking forward to welcoming a kind, loving, child centered nanny into their life to provide quality care for the children. They are a fun easy going family that lives a Catholic lifestyle. The children enjoy reading, in door and outdoor play, crafts, games and going to the park and library. They have a great yard with swings and sandbox. Most of the time, the nanny will be caring for one to two children as the oldest girl will be attending full time preschool and the middle child part time preschool. The nanny will transport them  in the family minivan.

Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, the start time is 7:50 AM. The end time varies; 4:30 PM on Monday and Tuesday, 3:50 PM on Wednesday, 4:50 PM on Thursday and 12:30 PM on Friday. The family can be a bit flexible on adjusting the start and/or end times.
Additional Qualifiers: Multiple years experience caring for young school age children, loving to the boys, patient and a good role model, experienced working with other professionals in a team environment
Description: The parents are seeking a nanny who will plan and execute creative activities that promote the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of the children. She will also be transporting the boys to activities, school and appointments and communicating with teachers, therapist and other professionals. The older boy has high functioning autism and is very creative, loving and fun to be around. Most days he is in school or at activities. This family is very active and enjoys being outside at parks, museums, zoos etc. Outings typically involve at least two adults. This job also includes some household management duties, routine errands and light cooking. The mother does not work outside the home but is busy with many commitments and appointments during the week. This family has developed a great team of caregivers and other professionals who work well together. Their current nanny has been with them for 3 1/2 years and is leaving to pursue another career. So, the family is seeking another  mature experienced child care provider to partner with them and their family. They have successfully employed two nannies through our service over the years.

Type of Position: Part Time, 20 to 25+ hours per week
Start Date:  August 19 or 26
Location: St Louis Park, near Cedar Lake
Children:  5, 8 and 9 1/2 year old girls
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays, mini van provided for driving the children
Hours/Days: Three afternoon/evenings per week, Monday through Thursday; for example Monday 12-7:30 PM, Tuesday 2-7:30 PM and Thursday 2-9:00 PM, the later evening until 9:00 can be flexible. They could employ a nanny more hours if she if flexible to work on non school days but this is not required.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with school age children and household duties 
Description: This busy family is seeking a combination of after school childcare and some household help.  The job involves picking the girls up from school, overseeing homework and driving to activities.   The early afternoon hours are for household help such as laundry, grocery shopping, errands and preparing a simple family dinner. The parents have employed nannies successfully for many years and have always valued them and treated them like members of the family.

Description: These parents are seeking an active and experienced child care provider for their sons. Safety, quality care, creative new activities and a balanced healthy diet are important to them. They love to be outdoors, have a great fenced back yard for the boys to play and live very close to a park. A  nanny who is timely, reliable, professional and comes to work with a plan for the day/week is a good fit for them. The older boy will be in school three mornings per week and the father, who occasionally works from home, will transport him.

Description: The parents are seeking a smart, kind, well organized, neat, fun and responsible person to help care for their home and dog and supervise teen daughter. Household duties to include meal preparation, laundry, errands, feeding and walking the dog and supervision of repair and service people  Heavy housecleaning is not expected.  This family has employed nannies through our service for many years. They enjoy family time together and value a strong work ethic and mutual respect.

Children:  8 and 5 1/2 year old boys

Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday 3:00 to 7:00 PM, (nanny could start as late as 4:00 PM) and Friday is a full day,  8:00 AM  to 5:00 PM.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for young school age children, household duties and cooking
Description: The parents value their time with the boys after work and make it a point to eat together as a family. They enjoy  outdoor activity, reading and spending time together as a family. Monday through Thursday, the nanny will arrive at the home at 3:00, do some kitchen clean up, pick the boys up at school by 4:00, come home, spend time with the boys and prepare dinner.  The parents like to keep the time between coming home and children's' bedtime focused on them and as stress free as possible, thus help with evening kitchen cleaning/dishwashing is expected.  On the full day on Friday, the duties involve grocery shopping, laundry, errands and organizing. Heavy housecleaning is not expected.  This family has had a great experience with a nanny through our service for three years. But, as the boys transition into full time school, the family no longer needs full time nanny.

Description: This is a nanny share opportunity with two couples; the mothers are sisters. Both couples had baby girls born in February. They are very close families and live within a few blocks of each other. They are seeking an experienced infant care provider who is energetic, nurturing, patient and dependable. The parents would like to work with someone who can provide a loving environment where the girls can thrive and be appreciated for their individuality. Both couples enjoy being active, getting outdoors, taking the babies for walks together, cooking and sporting events.

Type of Position: Full Time Home Manager, salaried position

Compensation: To $41,600 annually, depending on qualifications.
Benefits: Paid vacation and medical and dental insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday start between 7:00-8:00 AM and be done between 4:00-5:00 PM, there is some flexibility in this. There are also times outside of this regular schedule that you need to drop off or pick up employers at the airport, 2-4 times per month. They are looking for a warm, caring and detail oriented person to prepare healthy meals, do housekeeping and laundry, run personal errands, provide pet care and perform miscellaneous household tasks. Description: The primary focus of this job is to provide quality loving and nurturing care for the three boys. The two older boys are used to going to a daycare center with set curriculum, schedule and activities focused on teaching. The parents would like them to still have some of these types of experiences with the nanny. The oldest boy is in part time preschool and the nanny will need to transport him so she will need a car that can accommodate three slim car seats that the parents will provide.  Mom will be home on maternity leave through November. This family enjoys reading, music outdoor play and spending time together.
