Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Type of Position: Part Time, 24 hours, 3 days
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Edina
Children: 2 1/2 year old boy
Compensation: To $17 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and paid holidays

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler age children, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain
Description: These parents are seeking a nanny who has an understanding of child development and will enjoy their bright, fun and active toddler son. He attends a nursery school one morning per week and on this day, the nanny will do laundry and light housecleaning for the family prior to picking him up at 12:15. They would like the nanny to get outdoors and out in the community with him. This family enjoys music, art, reading and getting outdoors. they live in a great neighborhood with lots of young children.

Type of Position: Part Time, 30 hours, guaranteed, in four days
Start Date: ASAP, March
Location: Edina
Children: 3 month old and 3 year old boys
Compensation: To $17 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation
Hours/Days: Tuesday 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM,  Wednesday10-11:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Thursday 7:00 AM to 1-2:00 PM and Friday 7:00 AM to 12:00 noon for two consecutive weeks and then 12:00 to 5-6:00 PM on the next the Friday. This Friday morning or afternoon/evening schedule rotates every three weeks. It is desirable, but not required, if the nanny could work until 7:00 PM on Thursdays in March and then the shorter Thursdays commence in April.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and preschool age children
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the infant boy as the older boy is in preschool much of the day. However, the nanny will need to get him ready in the morning,  take him and drop him off at the preschool which is 1-2 miles from the home. In nice weather, they could walk and the family also could provide a vehicle for this if necessary. The parents are seeking a nanny who is energetic, patient, loves chancre and is able to keep both of the boys happy and stimulated. Family is very important to them and they frequently have a grandparent or sibling visiting from out of town. They are an active family that enjoys getting outdoors, to museums, reading and spending time together.

Location: Medina, border of Plymouth
Children:  1 year old and almost 4 year old boys
Compensation:  $675 per week
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays and sick days
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler and preschool age children, CPR or willing to obtain, ideal but not required is college education related to working with young children
Description: The primary focus of this job is provide great care for the boys and engage them in age appropriate play and educational activities. The older boy attends preschool part day twice a week. The boys love to go to the neighborhood playground and spend time outside. The parents would like a nanny who will plan trips to the museum, theater, parks etc. The mother works from a home office so the nanny must be comfortable with this. They have successfully employed nannies in the past and would consider hiring a nanny who wants to bring her own child to the job.

Location: Plymouth
Children:  4 year old girl, 7 year old boy, 10 year old girl
Compensation: $20+ per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and paid holidays
Hours/Days: Tuesday 3:30 to 8:00 pm and Wednesday 7:30 am to 8:00 pm, every other Friday 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Additional hours are available but optional on Thursday morning before school and every other  Saturday.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool and school age children
Description: This part time job involves before and after school care on Wednesday, every other Friday and afterschool care on Tuesday. After school care involves dinner, homework help and transportation to activities. On Wednesday and Friday when the children are in school, the nanny would do errands, laundry etc with a paid break midday.

Type of Position: Full Time, 39 hours per week
Start Date: June
Location: Roseville
Children: 8 and 4 year old boys
Compensation: To $19 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, the start time is 7:50 AM. The end time varies; 4:30 PM on Monday and Tuesday, 3:50 PM on Wednesday, 4:50 PM on Thursday and 12:30 PM on Friday. The family can be a bit flexible on adjusting the start and/or end times.
Additional Qualifiers: Multiple years experience caring for young school age children, loving to the boys, patient and a good role model, experienced working with other professionals in a team environment
Description: The parents are seeking a nanny who will plan and execute creative activities that promote the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of the children. She will also be transporting the boys to activities, school and appointments and communicating with teachers, therapist and other professionals. The older boy has high functioning autism and is very creative, loving and fun to be around. Most days he is in school or at activities. This family is very active and enjoys being outside at parks, museums, zoos etc. Outings typically involve at least two adults. This job also includes some household management duties, routine errands and light cooking. The mother does not work outside the home but is busy with many commitments and appointments during the week. This family has developed a great team of caregivers and other professionals who work well together. Their current nanny has been with them for 3 1/2 years and is leaving to pursue another career. So, the family is seeking another  mature experienced child care provider to partner with them and their family. They have successfully employed two nannies through our service over the years.

Compensation: To $850 per week ($20 per hour), depending on qualifications

Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants
Description: The primary focus of this job is to provide quality loving care for an infant who was born prematurely and because of this, his immune system is fragile. This includes basic infant care, adherence to hand washing and sanitizing routines, helping establish and maintain a good routine and providing interaction and cognitive stimulation. The parents are seeking a nanny who is highly experienced and does not have small children of her own or work with another family with small children while working with them. It is important that the nanny is creative about keeping the child engaged mentally as he cannot leave the house at this point and his exposure to a variety of environments is limited. The nanny needs to have a current flu vaccination or be willing to get this. These easy going parents are seeking a great nanny to partner with them in providing a healthy stimulating environment for their son.
