Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position:  Part time, 30 hours in three days, days will vary

Start Date: January
Location: Edina
Children:  3 month and 2 year old boys
Compensation:  Up to $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  holidays
Schedule:  Three days per week, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, the three days of the week are not set and will vary week to week. However, the will know her schedule three months in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Child care experience with infants and toddlers and caring for multiple young children
Description:  The primary focus of this job is to provide quality loving care for the two boys.  It is important that the nanny provide age appropriate learning activities for the children and take them outside daily as weather allows. It is preferred that the nanny have early childhood education training but this is not required. This is an active family oriented family that enjoys the outdoors.

Type of Position:  Full time
Start Date: December 28 or January 3
Location: Eden Prairie
Children:  3 month old boy/girl twins
Compensation:  Up to $1000 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  holidays
Schedule:  Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Previous nanny experience caring for multiple infants is required, primarily interested in a nanny who has been placed through or successfully screened previously by Nannies from the Heartland.
Description:  The nanny's primary role is taking care of the children; to feed, nurture, comfort and teach them. It's important that the nanny is active, self motivated, a strong communicator, patient and can be calm under stress. A nanny who is bilingual would be a plus. The parents are family oriented; both are hard working with full time jobs and work as a team to get things accomplished. They enjoy outdoor activities, exploring new foods and  live music.

Type of Position:  Full time
Start Date: January
Location: Hopkins, near 169 and Minnetonka Blvd
Children:  4 and 6 year old boys
Compensation:  Up to $800 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation,  holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Three days per week, 7:30 AM to 6:00 PM and two days per week 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM. The family can be flexible on which days are longer and which are shorter to accommodate the nanny's preference.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous full time child care experience with  preschool and young school ages
Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who  is responsible, mature, a good role model and passionate about making kids their best. It's important to them that she hold the children accountable to rules and practicing safe behavior. The older boy is in kindergarten and the younger boy attends part time morning preschool. The nanny will need to provide transportation for them but both schools are within a few miles of the home. While the boys are in school, the family would appreciate help with basic household chores, grocery shopping, errands, children's laundry and simple dinner prep. This family lives in a great neighborhood with a large yard and the boys are active and enjoy outdoor play.
Pets: One small dog, hypoallergenic, non shedding

Type of Position:  Full Time, Nanny/Household Manager, 40 hours per week split shift during the school year and 50 hours per week in the summer, school breaks and on non-school days, see below for more detail
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Minneapolis, East Lake of the Isles neighborhood
Children:  9 and 11 year old boys
Compensation:  Competitive based on experience and fit, any hours worked over 40 per week will be paid time-and-a-half for over time
Benefits: Paid vacation and  holidays and willing to consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  On school days, the morning schedule is Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM, Friday 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. The afternoon schedule is Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 3:00 to 5:30 PM and Thursday 3:00 to 8:30 PM. This is a total of 30 hours per week. During the summer, school breaks and on non-school days, the schedule is 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, total of 50 hours per week.
Additional Qualifiers: Early childhood development/education skills (which can come from experience and/or education) childcare experience with school age children, previous nanny and household management experience is preferred.  Since the family has a severe cat allergy, it is strongly preferred that the nanny lives in a home without cats.
Description:  The parents believe that the right nanny for their family could come from a number of different backgrounds and skill sets. However, it is very important that the nanny has the ability and enthusiasm to engage, play with, guide and teach values to two energetic active fun-loving boys. It's also important that the nanny has household management skills and is able to do laundry, cook, run errands and organizing. This family has successfully employed several nannies through our service and is seeking a partner in parenting. The split schedule during the school year worked well for past nannies who either freelanced in other professions or were taking classes.
Pets: None, though occasionally a relative's dog visits the home (4-6 times per year).

Start Date: ASAP
Location: Minneapolis,  Linden Hills
Children:  16 month old girl and 4 year old boy
Compensation:  Negotiable depending on the schedule and nanny qualifications. The family has a living space for the nanny in the basement with a private bathroom and egress window.
Benefits: NA
Schedule: Afternoon care from 4-8:00 PM and help on the weekends would be a plus. The family can be flexible on the schedule for the right person.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience working with infant to preschool age children, experience or interest in working with children with special needs, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain.
Description: Looking for a live in nanny for a warm, active family. Hoping for a kind-hearted nanny who will tag team with parents in providing care for an engaging, happy 16 month old girl with fragile medical status, a bright, joyful 4 year old boy (who is mostly in school) as well as household tasks. Must have experience or strong interest in working with children with special needs, including a feeding tube.
