Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field

LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Jobs are listed in alphabetical order based on location.

Type of Position: Almost full time, 35 hours per week in four days
Start Date: December 1
Location: Edina
Children: 2 and 4 1/2 year old girls
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications, and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Benefits: Paid vacation,  paid holidays and paid sick days
Hours/Days: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 AM to 6:00/6:30 PM and Tuesday 1:00 to 6:00/6:30 PM, total of 35 hours. If the nanny is available to work an occasional Tuesday morning or Friday, that would be great but is not required. The schedule will vary in the summer but the family will guarantee to pay for 35 hours per week average if the nanny can be flexible. The job would still be generally Monday through Thursday. This family would love to find a good long term fit with a nanny.  But, starting next school year, they will need only 25-30 hours of child care per week. They'd be willing to consider employing someone for 35 hours per week if she is a great nanny who is willing to help with household errands/management type activities.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for toddler and preschool age children, willing to get in pool with children, able to lift 35 lbs (younger child still needs assistance with high chair, crib, parking lots etc) Nanny must be a nonsmoker and not live with any smokers (children are highly sensitive to the smell of smoke).
Description: Child care is the nanny's primary responsibility. The parents are seeking a nanny who is intelligent, warm and caring but can still set good limits with the children. It's important that she is active and takes the girls on adventures but also helps them have fun at tome. The older girl is currently at preschool Monday, Tuesday and Friday mornings and the younger girl attends Tuesday morning.  They are involved in dance and swimming lessons. So, the nanny must be comfortable providing transportation for them in her own car (family reimburses for mileage and provides car seats). they are an active family that enjoys healthy eating and outdoor activities. the parents like to keep the kids busy but not overscheduled. They are busy professionals who count on their nanny to keep the household running smoothly.

Type of Position: Part Time, 20 hours in two days
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Lake Elmo
Children: 3 year old boy/girl twins, 6 1/2 year old girl and 8 year old boy
Compensation: $16+ an hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday and Tuesday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, they can be a little flexible on the start and end times and can lengthen the day to provide a few more hours if the nanny would like this. They cannot be flexible on the days.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool and school age children
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the preschool age twins. Both the older children are in school from 9:00 to 5:00 daily. So, the nanny just needs to get them breakfast and out to the school bus. The twins enjoy lots of outings and activities in the community.  This family successfully employs a nanny through our service who works three days per week.
Pets: None

Type of Position: Full Time for 6-7 months
Start Date: December 15 through April or May (the end date is negotiable but would they would like a commitment through March at a minimum)
Location: Minneapolis, south, easy access from Hiawatha Avenue/Highway 55 and from Highway 62
Children: 1 year old girl
Compensation: To $760 per week ($16 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid holidays and two paid vacation days, nanny will be paid even if the parents take time off from work and she is not needed
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants
Description: Caring for the child is the primary focus of this job. She was born 14 weeks early but does not have any special needs or requirements. Developmentally, she is on track based on her corrected age, approximately 10 months. She is a very happy baby and loves exploring, reading and playing. It's important that the nanny has experience caring for infants and loves to be on the floor playing and interacting with the child.
Pets: Two dogs, one large and one small, both are very friendly and good with the child

Type of Position: Part time +, about 1680 hours annually which is an average of 140 per month in a 12 day period.  See detail below.
Start Date: Mid January
Location: New Brighton
Children:  4 month old boy
Compensation: $14 to $17 an hour, to about $28,500 annually, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: This family needs a nanny to work a schedule based on the mother's work schedule. This is 12 long days per month, which includes one weekend. Typically the nanny will work 5 consecutive weekdays starting at 6:30 AM and ending generally by 6:00 PM.  However, she must be able to work until 7:00 PM, and on rare occasions until 8:00 PM,  as the mother will not know until 1/2 way through the work day when she can be home. Then there is typically one week off. The next work period is 7 consecutive days and includes the weekend. The starting time is 6:30 AM and ending time is same as above except on the weekends it would be between 4-6:00 PM. This is a total of about 140 hours per month.  There is an opportunity to work some additional hours. The nanny will know her schedule three months in advance and the mother has control over which weeks she works. This is a great schedule for a nanny who can be flexible and would enjoy large blocks of time off to pursue other interests or do fill in nanny work for other families.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants, current CPR or willing to obtain, reliability is very important
Description: First and foremost for the parents is that the nanny provides warm loving quality care for their son. They want a nanny who will engage him in age and developmentally appropriate activities in the home, get out for walks in good weather and is comfortable taking him on outings as he gets older. This job has the potential for a long term several year relationship.

Type of Position: Part time, average of 30 hours per week annually. The job is 3 to 3 1/2 days per week during winter and spring 2015, about 20 hours per week this summer and 4 days per week next school year. See below for more detail
Start Date: Ideally by Tuesday January 6, they could consider starting later in the month
Location: Plymouth, near Highways #55 and #169
Children:  6 month old boy and 3 1/2 year old girl
Compensation: To $20 an hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: The family needs a nanny to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM for the remainder of this school year. They may also need Thursday 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM, can be flexible on this.  During the summer, they need less child care but are able to guarantee up to 20 hours per week if the nanny wants this. They also would be fine if she wants to work fewer hours this summer. Starting with the school year next fall, they will need a nanny Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and preschool age children, comfortable caring for an infant with feeding issues, CPR certified or willing to obtain
Description: Child care is the nanny's primary responsibility. The parents are seeking a patient, warm and creative nanny who can balance the needs of both children.  The infant boy was born with some health issues and requires patience with feeding. He is working on bottle feeding and this is supplemented by use of a feeding tube. The older girl will be home full time during the days until April and she also needs attention, stimulating educational activities and fun play. After the flu season, she will return to preschool on a part time basis. The nanny must be very attentive to cleanliness and comfortable with not leaving the home until the spring.

Type of Position: Full Time

Location: St Louis Park
Children: 1 year old girl
Compensation: To $800 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, typically 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM but there may be occasional days that the nanny will need to work later until about 6:00 PM
Additional Qualifiers: Minimum one year experience working as a nanny, experience caring for infant/toddler age children, someone who is of Christian faith
Description: Caring for the child is the primary focus of this job. The parents want a nanny who will engage her, interact with her, read, sing and develop creative activities for her. Their Christian faith the most important aspect of their family life and it's important to them that the nanny shares these same values. Both parents work hard but when work is done, they love to spend time with their daughter.
