Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field

 


NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time, all are live out unless noted)

Type of Position:  Part time, three days per week, up to 30 hours
Start Date:  May/June
Location: Eagan, near 35E and Yankee Doodle Rd
Children:  5 month old girl and 1 1/2 year old boy
Compensation:  To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid time off
Schedule:  Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for 8 hours each day, start between 7-8:00 AM and be done between 3-4:00 PM, additional hours available evening or weekend
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infants and toddlers, multiple young children, post high school education, comfortable with large dogs,  current CPR or willing to obtain
Description:  The parents are seeking an energetic enthusiastic nanny who has experience caring  for multiple young children. They would like the nanny to engage the children in age appropriate creative and educational activities. They have a fenced backyard and would like the nanny to let the dogs out for a bathroom break. Both children have a history of reflux. The older boy's is mostly resolved and the younger girl's is still ongoing.
Pets: Two senior female Rhodesian Ridgebacks who will typically be in their back room during the day
 
Type of Position: Full time, 160 hours per month, average 40 hours per week, variable schedule, see below

Location: Edina
Children:  1 year old boy
Compensation:  To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday with variations depending on the parents' work schedules. Nanny will know her schedule one month in advance. She needs to be able to start as early as  7:00 AM and work as late as 6:00 PM, some weeks will be more hours than others.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infants/toddlers, bilingual (Spanish English)
Description: The parents are seeking an experienced nanny who is caring, responsible and dependable and can provide a safe loving stimulating environment for their son. They would like him to get out in the community for socialization experiences. The parents would like the nanny to feel comfortable in their home, like part of the family and respected for her work. There are grandmothers who currently alternate visits and stay at the home for three months at a time. They do not speak English nor drive.  The parents would like to have another child in the next year and are seeking a nanny who could be with their family for several years.

Start Date: No later than mid August and they could start new nanny in June or July
Location: Edina
Children:  1 1/2, 3 and 6 1/2  year old boys
Compensation:  To $940 per week , depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Monday through Thursday 7:15 AM to 5:30 PM and 7:15 AM to 12:15 PM on Fridays. There may be very rare occasions when the nanny would need to work on Friday afternoon.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with toddler to school age children, previous nanny experience, ideally some education in child development, current CPR or willing to obtain
Description: This is an active family with three energetic boys. They are seeking an energetic, fun nanny who is a self starter and strong communicator. The boys are in school, preschool and some classes so the nanny must have a reliable car to transport three children and enjoy outings and various activities in the community with them. During the school year, the older boy is in school all day and 3 year old in morning preschool. This family has employed the same nanny through our service for the past six years. They are looking for another long term relationship with a nanny who wants to do this as a career and is looking for a family to grow with.
Pets: None currently but they do plan to get a Beagle. The nanny will not need to be responsible for the dog
Type of Position:  Part time, average 32 hours per week, salaried position with rotating schedule, see below
Start Date:  June 13
Location: Golden Valley
Children:  2 1/2 and  4 1/2 year old boys
Compensation:  To $570 per week (negotiable), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays
Schedule:  This family is seeking a nanny to work two to four days per week with Tuesday always the day off.  Some days start at 8:30 AM and work until 3:30 or 6:30 PM, some days start at 7:00 AM and work until 5:00 PM and every other Wednesday start at 10:45 AM and work until 8:45 PM. The same schedule rotates every 8 weeks.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with toddler and preschool age children, 5+years  child care experience, some college education would be a bonus and knowledge of early childhood education is desirable
Description: Most important for the parents is that the nanny provide a safe loving environment with learning activities and opportunities for the boys to run, explore  and problem solve. The older boy will be in preschool in the fall so nanny will need to transport. A caring, compassionate, energetic and reliable nanny is a good fit for this family. They are an active "on the go" family that enjoys all that living in the city has to offer; museums, parks, lakes and sporting events. The boys love books so story time is another favorite activity.

Type of Position:  Part time, three days per week, up to 30 hours
Start Date:  June is the ideal but they can be somewhat flexible on the start date, what is most important to the family is finding the right person
Location: Minneapolis, Linden Hills
Children:  1 year old girl and 4 year old boy
Compensation:  To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid  holidays and paid sick days
Schedule:  This family is seeking a nanny to work three days per week at a minimum. One of those days needs to be Wednesday 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM. It would be most ideal if the nanny can also work on Monday and Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM but they can consider different days. There is the opportunity for additional hours on weekends and/or evenings.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infants to preschool age children, experience working with children with special needs, ideally experience with feeding tubes, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain
Description:  The parents are seeking a nanny who has an understanding of child development and will enjoy her time with their children. The old boy is in school most days and there is occasional driving involved. Most of the care required is for the happy, smiley one year old girl who has some special needs and a feeding tube. This family enjoys music, art, reading and getting outdoors. They live in a great neighborhood with lots of children near Linden Hills and Minnehaha Creek.

Type of Position:   Full time, 36 hours in four days
Start Date:  July 13, they could employ a nanny for three weeks in June but then they are gone for two weeks in early July
Location: Minneapolis, Linden Hills
Children:  9 month and 2 1/2 year old girls
Compensation:  To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and holidays
Schedule:  Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and either Wednesday or Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for a total of 36 hours. The family would appreciate if the nanny can be flexible regarding which day she has off and they in turn can be flexible for her.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infants and toddlers and some education/training in child care, current CPR or willing to obtain
Description:  The parents would like a nanny who is friendly, reliable, can be flexible and cares about the children's education. When the nanny is with the children, they want her to be fully focused on them and making sure they are happy and safe. They would like the girls to play outside, get out in the community and for the nanny to take the older girl to a part time preschool program and playdates.

Type of Position: Full time, 40 or more hours per week, variable schedule, see more details below
Start Date: Mid June
Location: Minneapolis, near Minnehaha Park and West River Parkway
Children:  8 month old twin girls
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications and the benefits package with overtime for hours worked in excess of 40 in a week
Benefits: Paid time off and paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule: Monday through Friday weekdays but there is some flexibility required depending on the parents' work schedules. You need to be able to start as early as  7:30 AM and work as late as 6:00 PM and occasionally the parents may ask if you can work until 7:00 PM. Some weeks may be more hours than others. The nanny will know her schedule well in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants required. Also required is experience with multiple infants such as caring for twins, as lead teacher with infants in a child care center or as a licensed home daycare provider with infants. Current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain.
Description: Most important to the parents is that the nanny provide safe. attentive and loving care for the girls. They are seeking a nanny who will engage them in age appropriate activities and play. The nanny can also get out for walks in this great neighborhood which is very close to the river.

Type of Position: Full Time, 42.5 hours per week
Start Date: Ideal is June 20
Location: Minnetonka, near Ridgedale
Children:  Infant due in July, 2 year old boy and 3 1/2 year old girl
Compensation:  Up to $935 per week, depending on  qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance. The family provides a minivan for transporting the children.
Schedule:  Monday 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM and on Friday 8:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant, toddler and preschool age children, minimum of two years of nanny experience, first aid knowledge
Description: The parents are seeking a competent caring nanny with a warm personality to provide excellent care for their children. They are a rather relaxed couple who are close to their families and value a good sense of humor. Learning and stimulation is important to them and they desire a nanny who will engage the children in age appropriate activities both in the home and out in the community. The older girl attends preschool part time. The nanny must be comfortable with a parent sometimes being home and grandparents who will stop by occasionally. On most Mondays and Fridays, a parent or grandparent will be home. This is when they would envision the nanny would work on family laundry, grocery shop or enjoy some one-on-one time with a child. This family, currently and in the past, successfully employed a nanny through our service and it's been a very positive experience for all. Due to changes in their family and needs, they are seeking to hire a new nanny and hoping to develop a similar close, friendly and comfortable relationship.

Location: St Louis Park
Children:  2 month old boy
Compensation:  To $800 per week, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, holidays, sick days and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Typically the nanny will work Monday through Friday weekdays but there is some flexibility required depending on the parents' work schedules. Some weeks, the nanny may not work all five days and there may be very occasional weekend hours. You need to be able to start as early as  7:15 AM and work as late as 6:00 PM. Some weeks will be more hours than others. The nanny will know her schedule at least 4-5 weeks  advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infants and previous nanny experience required, current CPR, First Aid and SIDS or willing to obtain, willing to travel on vacation with the family a couple times per year (all expenses paid), must be comfortable with very large dogs
Description: First and foremost for the parents is that the nanny provides warm loving quality care for their son.  Due to their unusual schedules, there will be times that a parent is at home and wants to spend time with the child. In this situation, they would like the nanny to be proactive and help them with errands, cooking and laundry. The parents are both high energy, hard working, easy going and people who are quite optimistic. They are seeking a nanny who is calm, level headed, will help them transition to parenthood and would like to become part of their open loving family.
Pets: Two very large dogs, Bulldog and Akbash. The bulldog is docile and quiet. Once the Akbash gets to know the nanny, then will be ok with her. They will need to be let them out in the yard during the day.

Start Date: July 1
Location: St Paul, Summit Ave
Children:  2 month old girl, 9 1/2 year old girl and 12 year old boy
Compensation: To $800 per week, depending on qualifications (additional compensation for hours over 40)
Benefits: Paid time off and paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Schedule:  Typically the nanny will work Monday through Friday weekdays but there is some flexibility required depending on the school year schedule. She will typically be done by 6:00 PM.  During the school year, on Monday and Tuesday, she will work 4-5 hours in the afternoon and 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. In the summer, the hours could be full days five days per week up to 50  hours. The nanny will know her schedule well in advance.
Additional Qualifiers: Previous child care experience with infants and school age children, reliable, self starter
Description: This is a two household situation with the older children spending a part of the week with each of their parents. They have had a nanny for many years so the parents are skilled in coordinating amongst themselves and with a nanny in order to make the two household situation relatively easy. They live very close to each other and communicate well. When older children are with their father on Monday and Tuesday, the nanny will work afternoons during the school year and the care is only for the older children. Then they spend the remainder of the week days with their mother.  The infant care is required only at the mother's home  on Wednesday Thursday and Friday.  A nanny who is open minded, patient, well organized and flexible will be a great fit for this family. It's important that the nanny is comfortable taking the kids on outings and spending time outdoors at nearby parks or at the country club pool.
Pets: Two small dogs who go between the two homes with the older children.
