Qualifications for all positions through Nannies from the Heartland, Inc. are based on the requirements and needs of the client families.  Listed below are the minimal requirements in order for a nanny application to be considered. Please see our Nanny Qualifications page for more detailed information.

  • Current or very recent child care employment; a minimum of one (1) year full time experience.  Candidates with less experience are considered if they possess a 2 year or 4 year college degree in a child related field.
  • At least three employment related child care references that are not family members or personal friends.
  • Own a safe, insured vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Nannies need to be a non-smoker. It is important that they are in good health and must be able to perform the essential physical functions of a nanny job.
  • 21 or older
  • Ability to work with a family for a minimum of one (1) year. We do not do summer only placements.

Additional qualifiers that are helpful, but not required:

  • CPR/First Aid certified or willingness to obtain certification
  • Post secondary education specific to child care, education or related field


LIVE-OUT NANNY POSITIONS (full and part time)

Jobs are listed in alphabetical order based on location.

Type of Position: Part Time, about 1500 hours annually
Start Date: October 13
Location: Falcon Heights/Roseville border
Children: 6 month old boy
Compensation: To $20 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: In a two week period, the nanny will generally work six 12 hour days, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.  This is 72 hours in a two week period. She will work Tuesday through Friday one week, then Monday and Tuesday the following week. She will be off Saturday and Sunday the first week, then have six contiguous days off, from Wednesday through Monday, the second week. There are about 21 of these two-week cycles per year. There is the opportunity to work on some weekends, if the nanny would like additional hours. The nanny will know her schedule now through December and in December for the next six months, January through June. This is a great schedule for a nanny who can be flexible on her schedule and would enjoy large blocks of time to pursue other interests or possibly do fill in nanny work for other families.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infants, current CPR and First Aid or willing to obtain, reliability is very important.
Description: First and foremost for the parents is that the nanny provides warm loving care for their son. They want a nanny who will interact with their son in and outside the home and engage him in age and developmentally appropriate activities. Getting outdoors most days is important and they want no screen time for him until he is two years old. This job has the potential for a long term relationship as they anticipate having more children in the coming years. The nanny who currently works with this family is through our service and truly enjoys working with them. However, due to an unexpected situation, she is moving out of the area.
Pets: Two friendly cats and one Collie (the dog currently goes to day care)


Type of Position: Part Time, 20 hours in two days
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Lake Elmo
Children: 3 year old boy/girl twins, 6 1/2 year old girl and 8 year old boy
Compensation: $16+ an hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation and  paid holidays and will consider a contribution to medical insurance
Hours/Days: Monday and Tuesday 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, they can be a little flexible on the start and end times and can lengthen the day to provide a few more hours if the nanny would like this. They cannot be flexible on the days.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for preschool and school age children
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the preschool age twins. Both the older children are in school from 9:00 to 5:00 daily. So, the nanny just needs to get them breakfast and out to the school bus. The twins enjoy lots of outings and activities in the community.  This family successfully employs a nanny through our service who works three days per week.

Type of Position: Part Time, 15 hours afternoons
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Lake Elmo
Children: 8 year old boy and 6 year old girl
Compensation: $15-$16 per hour
Benefits: NA
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday 3:30 to 6:30 pm, additional optional hours on school holidays and sick days
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for school age children, organized and dependable
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to meet the children at the school bus, oversee homework after a short post school playtime and provide occasional transportation to afternoon activities. It's important that the nanny can have fun with the children but also convey strong expectations. This family has successfully employed nannies through our service in the past.

Type of Position: Part or Full Time Nanny/Household Manager, 30 to 40 hours depending on nanny's preference
Start Date:  ASAP
Location: Long Lake/Orono
Children: 14 year old boy and 11 year old girl
Compensation: To $800 per week ($20 per hour), depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick days and contribution to medical insurance, family vehicle provided for driving the children
Hours/Days: Monday through Friday, afternoon/evening hours to approximately 8-9:00 PM, 30 to 40 hours per week. The family can offer flexibility on the schedule. Potential to stay with the children overnight when the parents travel (1-2 times per year).
Additional Qualifiers: Experience with school age children (preteen/teen a plus). College educated, computer literate/proficient, experience or background with children with learning differences, energetic, can demonstrate good morals and values, physically fit and active, CPR/First Aid or willing to obtain
Description: This family has successfully employed nannies through our service for many years. they are a fun, easy going family that likes to spend time together and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities. The parents are seeking a nanny who can work with the children on school work. She will also help engage the children in activities and enjoy activities with them during non- school times. The children are enrolled in extra curricular activities and the nanny will help with driving responsibilities from school and to and from activities. The nanny will also assist in dinner preparation and preparing for school the next day. She will also assist with packing and organizing for activities, trips and camps. Other duties include assistance with shopping for the children, doing the children's laundry and other household duties related to the children as well as maintaining the general household. The nanny must feel comfortable with the parents in and out of the home and working in tandem with the mother at times. She must also be comfortable around dogs.
Pets: Three large dogs


Type of Position: Part Time,  afternoons
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Minneapolis near Lake Harriet
Children: 9 month old boy and 2 year old girl
Compensation: To $18 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: NA
Hours/Days: Monday through Thursday or Friday 4:30 to 8:00 pm, Friday is optional if the nanny would prefer to work only 4 days per week
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for infant and toddler age children and multiple young children
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to care for the children when the daytime nanny leaves at 4:30. One parent will later arrive home from work and then they would like the nanny to assist with dinner and bedtime routines. The most critical need/days are when the father is travelling. They would like the consistency of knowing there is a nanny working regularly but if there are occasional days that the nanny cannot work, they can consider this.

Type of Position: Part Time, variable schedule up to 15 hours per week, 10 hours per week guaranteed paid
Start Date: ASAP
Location: Prior Lake
Children: 13 and 8 year old girls
Compensation: To $25 per hour, depending on qualifications
Benefits: Paid vacation
Hours/Days: The schedule is variable. It could be before school for a couple hours, after school,  evening and on a rare occasion an overnight. The mother works shifts that vary daily and weekly but she does know her schedule a minimum of 5 weeks in advance. The father travels at times.
Additional Qualifiers: Experience caring for school age children, reliable and lives close to Prior Lake, able to work a flexible schedule
Description: The nanny's primary responsibility is to help the girls get ready and off to school if working a morning shift. After school duties include homework help, meal preparation and transportation to activities which are all in the local area. The parents are seeking a very reliable and responsible nanny who has a clear driving record. They do reimburse for mileage. It's important that she enjoys spending time with school age children and teens and is able to motivate them in a positive way.
